May I be forgiven for thinking that this topic has become a wee bit
melodramatic?
No. I have said too much. I will not address this forum again.
Sudden sounds off-stage: Heavy boots on a floor. A
woman screams in horrified surprise. A heavy object hits the floor, bouncing as if plastic, clattering like a keyboard.
A voice that's distinctively matronly [
♥], urgently pleading: "
I didn't give away
any of your
secrets!
I would
never do that! I
promise! Please,
nooOO!".
Gun-shots, followed by a burst of
diabolical male laughter [♉].
Then the finality of silence.

Note
♥: Any heroine from
film noir would suffice, because of that odd vocal quality that's characteristic of the audio technology of early
talkies, heard especially in the voices of
women. Altho' I initially thought of Margaret Dumont, who costarred during those same years as the innocent straight-woman in several Marxist movies.
Note ♉: Laughter that for some reason, sounds almost
hispanic! But how silly it is to think that a native--or even revisionist--ethnic accent could
really be heard in laughter!
