Unbelievable. This place is beautiful and huge. Shut. Down. Why not buy this instead of building multi billion dollar new building? I bet a sweet deal could be gotten from this place.

Usually the SSPX won't be able to buy this kind of property directly. The diocesan staff usually checks the background of the prospective buyer. Unless another party is willing to buy it first from the diocese and then, sell it to the Society.

Unfortunately, this article says it would cost $20 million "to fix structural and safety probems". They've often bought through third parties, but it would probably be difficult to find someone convincing, with a building this expensive.

Parentsfortruth - I agree, Father Hesse was a splendid priest and a brilliant speaker. It was very sad he died so young - we need him. He'd certainly have been on the side of the Resistance!

This is what Father Bolduc did at least in the case of Saint Mary's Kansas. I'm sure there might have been others. Why not do this again?

So? That's $20 million. They're ready to spend $160 million! That's $140 million LESS than building a new one. I mean, they can't be charging that big of a figure if there's that much that needs to be done structurally. It has absolutely BEAUTIFUL INCOMPARABLE art that cannot be replicated these days unless you want to spend 3 times as much as they want to spend on the current $160 million project!
