I imagine they'll take it how the traditionalist groups and the Eastern Catholics do - they won't, and carry on. The Vatican knows that if they try anything, both those groups will go elsewhere.

I agree. Building on its historic secrecy, the Society would further insulate itself using any special arrangement as grounds for staying quiet about anything. Like Opus Dei, it will change from being missionary to being exclusive.

An important point. The corralling effect of Ecclesia Dei will be more evident with the inclusion of the Society. It has taken almost thirty years for Rome's antidote to be fully effective. The principle that will be made is that only special groups will be allowed to practice in the traditional way. The great unwashed have their own way of worshipping which was designed for them. The ordinary and extraordinary will thus make up the conciliar church in an apparent spirit of compromise but the result will do nothing for the faith.
