  • Father Leo F. McNamara, who died Oct 26, 1973 and had the stigmata never said the NO.  He was at St. Adrian's in south Chicago.

  • It is certainly true Fr. Leo F. McNamara never said the new mass, although he didn't continue to say the Traditional Latin Mass with the approval of his superiors.  After leading the Faithful at St. Adrian's for more than 35 years, Fr. Mac was involuntarily "retired" by Cardinal Cody in 1966.  After that time, he was relegated to the left side altar, where he continued to offer Mass until his death.  The Faithful filled the left side of the church for Mass, while the few people who came for the N.O. mess, (complete with guitars and banjos) had a service with Fr. John Jordan at the main altar.

I wonder what has become of St. Adrian's now.

  • My family had the service of a retired priest from Nevada for about 15 years, prior to his death about 10 years ago.  His name was Fr. Cyril Town, and to my knowledge he never said the new mass.

  • I've been Catholic my whole life and I've never heard of a priest in Chicago, or anywhere in the U.S., with the stigmata.  The only priest I know of is Padre Pio.  Are you serious?  Why haven't we heard anything about Father Leo McNamara before?
