I am a new attendee at a local SSPX chapel. I escaped the Novus Ordo about 3 years ago. Now, I'm hearing about the SSPX becoming increasingly Modernist, capitulating to Rome, betraying Lefebvre...Can someone provide a link or three to some articles or other info explaining the current situation with the SSPX that is causing so much concern. I'd like to know since I attend Mass at one of their chapels.

I would go to the "SSPX Resistance" subforum. There are some key docuмents "pinned" at the top of that subforum.
Also, you can read Sean Johnson's collection of "changes" in the SSPX.

The SSPX made a marriage agreement with Rome requiring them to seek permission from the local Modernists to have marriages.
Not all SSPX priests follow this, but it is the rule. Your SSPX priest will confirm this.
This is unacceptable to Catholic ears and Archbishop Lefebvre said there should be no co-operating with them until they have rejected Vatican II.
Then they also approved the new code of canon law (Which gives communion to protestants!). As a body of law.
They dropped their doctrinal agreement (conversion in otherwords) With Rome from their regulations. It had been enshrined for years.
They also changed their position on conditional confirmations.
Mainly though it is because of the marriage agreement (and the other ones which are harder to show), which mean we should not go anywhere near them. As a matter of principle. The supreme rule is protecting our faith, not treating the Sacraments like a childhood teddy bear we need to cling onto. Because if Sacraments were all that is needed we could just go the the Orthodox also. Valid Sacraments there, but we are forbidden because of the danger to our Faith and what it stands for by attending.
The SSPX are absolutely toxic.
By all means visit the Church and pray the rosary. It will be a Church in better shape than your local novus ordo.
But there are resistance Masses all over the US.Not all of them are listed on Cathinfo. Send me a DM. I'll tell you where your nearest one is.
And if its far, then make it a matter to go at least once a month or two months, or whenever you urgently need confession.
God will reward those who are faithful, rather than those who make compromises for an easy life.
Stay clear also of Father Hewko or "Bishop" Pfeiffer. They are Bishopless and will go nowhere in the long run.

I completely disagree with your take on Father David Hewko. He is a fantastic priest, and a faithful son of Archbishop Lefebvre who’s fidelity to the Catholic Doctrine, the Faith is something I strive for everyday.

The SSPX are absolutely toxic.
The guy is looking for the Mass and sacraments, which the SSPX provides. Yes, they are definitely playing with hell fire as you noted, but you go for the Mass and the sacraments to a certainly valid priest - NO priests that were not conditionally ordained by an SSPX bishop are the exception, not the rule - so yes, you do need to watch out for that.
But I have never heard heresy or error from the pulpit, their Masses are always done well, and their counseling in confession has always been very good, soundly Catholic.

Good priests dont feel the need to attack good bishops in public.

Would that life be so simple that it was only about the Sacraments.

The law of prayer is the law of faith, and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the perfect expression of the Catholic Faith. You can cope and seethe all you want, but the Mass said by a Catholic priest is just that..his opinion on the Crisis is irrelevant. The neo-SSPX, Resistance, sedevacantist, and independent priests are all dispensers of the Sacraments. That is their job.
-
As I may have said before, I attend this SSPX chapel for the Mass and Sacrament of Penance. I am not a "joiner", by nature. The pastor has already warned me about the new Rite of Ordination. Whatever capitulating they've done on behalf of Rome, is unfortunate, but doesn't concern me now. I survived 50+ years of the Novus Ordo.
-
Good priests dont feel the need to attack good bishops in public.
Now the NeoSSPX crowd would say to you about resistance priests with regards to Bishop Fellay: “Good priests dont feel the need to attack good bishops in public.”
It is of course the errors being attacked and never the person.

Faith (doctrine) is primary; the sacraments flow from it.

Right. And a Catholic priest saying the Mass is a perfect expression of the Faith. His opinion on the Crisis only has the influence on you that you allow it to have.
If you and Tom believe you have such weak faith that it would be "compromised" by attending a neoSSPX mass, then by all means stay away. But please, stop projecting

Except Bishop Fellay and the SSPX bishops are not good anymore.
By attacking the resistance Bishops you are saying there are no Catholic Bishops left.
Thats the problem.

Protecting your faith is not something you have a choice about it.
You are obliged to do it. Whether you "feel" it or not.

You're forgetting the Orthodox there. And the old Catholics.
-
It's also worth noting that the SSPX signed on with GREC, on the clandestine 'down low', basically just after +Lefebvre died - and they've been slipping ever since. I'm saying that only so you don't go in with rose colored shades. There is much to look out for actually but just know that going in.

I agree. If your faith is so weak that attending a neoSSPX mass would compromise it, stay away! But stop projecting :incense:

That and the Mass, that's what I use them for, that's what everyone should use them for. What do you use your priests for?

fr. hewko is working with fr. Raphael, even though fr. Hewko said he was not.
fr. Hewko never denounced fr. Marshall Roberts working with OLMC, nor did he ever say a word about fr. Pfeiffer hiding fr. Roberts in AZ under the wing of OLMC.
Also, did fr. Hewko ever denounce OLMC "friend" "fr" tetherow, or the OLMC association with laicised "fr" cordaro?
I have serious concerns about Fr. Hewko.

Agree with your first paragraph 100%, but beg to differ with the second.
I have heard heresy and errors from the pulpit at SSPX chapels, and their counseling in confessions has often been flat out un-Catholic and immoral.
That said, I still attend SSPX because it's the only Mass around me, but I go to mass, leave during the sermon, return until the end of Mass, then immediately exit.
-
That and the Mass, that's what I use them for, that's what everyone should use them for. What do you use your priests for?
The SSPX (20 min drive from the hospital) refused to bring my son extreme unction when he was in ICU for several days. They told me to call the FSSP (40 min drive from the hospital), who told me to call the local NO church (15 min drive from the hospital). I was desperate and wanted all possible opportunity for my son. The NO priest was there within the hour.
Blew me away...

What heresies did you hear?
What is concerning is the lack of condemnation of heresies and errors of Vatican II and the New Mass from the pulpit, they recognize the new code of canon law, a completely new attitude towards Rome etc, etc. Sean Johnson made an excellent book docuмenting over 100+ compromises and concessions, pick any one from the list, which is sufficient to not attend a NeoSSPX mass.
Father Chazal once answered a question to someone who said “Why aren’t more people leaving the NewSSPX” to which Father Chazal answered “They are waiting for the altar girls…and when they come they will wait until their is a gαy priest [to leave]”
This is how people fell for Vatican II and the New Mass, then there kids, and a whole generation lost the faith.
I just spoke to a cradle NeoSSPX young man today who had never heard of Father Fahey, or read any of the writings of +Archbishop Lefebvre that were not contained in the newer released biography from Angelus Press.
He never even read the 2012 Doctrinal Declaration.

What heresies did you hear?
Vatican II was the French Revolution within the Church. Bishop Fellay’s 2012 agreement was the French Revolution within the SSPX, far worse than the Civil Oath.
“At length We beseech you all, beloved Catholic children, in the kingdom of France; as you recall the religion and faith of your fathers, We urge you lovingly not to abandon it. For it is the one true religion which both confers eternal life and makes safe and thriving civil societies. Carefully beware of lending your ears to the treacherous speech of the philosophy of this age which leads to death. Keep away from all intruders, whether called archbishops, bishops, or parish priests; do not hold communion with them especially in divine worship. Listen carefully to the message of your lawful pastors who are still living, and who will be put in charge of you later, according to the canons. Finally, in one word, stay close to Us. For no one can be in the Church of Christ without being in unity with its visible head and founded on the See of Peter.”
“…The enemies of religion then realized correctly that their vicious plans would come to nothing unless they persuaded some bishop, either by appealing to his ambition or his stupidity, to take the oath to observe the Constitution and to undertake sacrilegious consecrations and so, to initiate a schism. Among those who have been overcome by this wicked deceit the first was Charles bishop of Autun, the greatest enthusiast for the Constitution; second was Jean-Joseph bishop of Lidda; third was Louis bishop of Orleans; fourth, Charles bishop of Viviers; fifth, Cardinal de Lomenie, Archbishop of Sens; and a few wretched pastors of lower rank…”
“…The bishop of Rennes indeed, of his own accord, had given him similar warning when he refused him the confirmation which he was insistently asking for.
Therefore, instead of accepting him as their pastor, the people should reject him with abhorrence as an intruder. For he has failed to profess the truth which he must acknowledge; he has begun to put his so-called pastoral duty to bad uses…”
-Pope Pius VI, Charitas
In the Civil Oath in France, 1791.

Shocking but not really.
The SSPX is a total cult people.
Avoid at all costs.
Receiving Communion there or worse, donating is unacceptable.
What communion do we have with these people? They want to go under modernist Rome! They are already under them! They don't care about conditional ordinations or confirmation. I mean just look above where they told someone to go to the FSSP! Potentionally invalid Sacraments! They don't care!
Why would you go to an SSPX Mass? It's purely for aestethics so you don't feel you're "missing Mass"
I mean have you never heard of a home altar and the rosary! Goodness if you cant even manage that then maybe go to the Church when the Mass is not on. but not the Mass.
What is wrong with people in tradition.
NONE of you are ready for martyrdom with this attitude.

I agree in principle with how you are outlining this, but we must apply distinction and true Charity, not “chawity” as Bishop Williamson would say. Fidelity to the Faith until death must always be matched with supernatural charity. What does this mean? It means we must recognize that the Faith can never be compromised. The pearl of great price is the uncompromising truth, and that truth is a sword. It cuts deep. Anything added to it, such as tone, fire and brimstone alone, or merely ramming the truth without teaching and informing, salts the wound. Our Lord calls us to be salt that has not lost its flavour. Both extremes can do harm, though even that is better than silence.
We must become men of steel with hearts of velvet. For a man of steel with a heart of iron can only lead the horse to the well, but a man with burning love in his heart can, by God’s grace, show him to drink.

It should help you to read a statement from St. Thomas Aquinas in his Summa. He wrote this as a truth he expected everyone to already believe:
"it would be blasphemy to say that the Church does anything in vain"
This means the Church cannot do anything useless or harmful.
Many people now act as though we cannot really tell when "the Church"..."does" something!
Think about it.

I literally couldnt understand that post at all.
You sounded like you were going to make a concrete point but then you just went on a ramble about "charity"

Agreed.
But, Fr. Chazal's answer doesn’t take into account that maybe the SSPX mass is all someone has available within a reasonable distance.
Furthermore, the SSPX has had their share of scandals regarding gαy and pervert priests, and moving them around to hide them.
