  • This deserves its own thread.

SSPX Press Communiqué of July 14, 2012

The General Chapter of the Society of Saint Pius X ended this Saturday, July 14, 2012, in Econe (Switzerland).
Gathered near Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre’s tomb, the capitularies have given thanks to God for the profound unity that prevailed among them during all these workdays.

The General Chapter will soon make a statement to Rome, which will then be made public.

The General Superior, Bishop Fellay, thanks deeply all the priests and faithfuls for their fervent prayers during this chapter.

  • Well, I sure hope they didn't say anything "anti-Semitic" because that would just cook
their goose with the authorities, to be sure. We absolutely must pay homage to our
elder brothers in the faith. Hey, maybe we should add a prayer to that effect at the
Foot of the Altar? Good idea?? Make it for December when we all are asked to buy
[new] 1962 Missals. After all, they did everything they could to silence the one, lone
voice who would have said something our elder bros. would take badly.

    HAPPY BASTILLE DAY!!!  :alcohol:

  • As expected, And of course a well crafted PR statement.
The subtext, Bishop Fellay remains firmly in control, and rub the noses of dissenters in "profundity".
Of course I am sure that there was "profound" unity among the 29.

The announcement above was changed to:

The General Chapter will soon make a common statement to Rome, which will then be made public.

    Does that mean anything?

Maybe the translator suddenly noticed a word was missing?

    com·mon   [kom-uhn]  Show IPA adjective, com·mon·er, com·mon·est, noun
    adjective
    1.
belonging equally to, or shared alike by, two or more or all in question: common property; common interests.
    2.
pertaining or belonging equally to an entire community, nation, or culture; public: a common language or history; a common water-supply system.
    3.
    joint; united: a common defense.
    4.
    widespread; general; ordinary: common knowledge.
    5.
of frequent occurrence; usual; familiar: a common event; a common mistake.

I notice they didn't say an 'earth shattering' or 'unexpected' or 'shocking' statement....
Sounds to me like they mean a statement that is already in common with Rome...meaning a matter of course, of which Rome knows and is expecting....but then what do I know?

And the priest chosen by the Archbishop was not present.

  • I'm wondering why, for the first time since all the problems began, they have finally decided to make something public rather than wait until it is leaked.

  • Actually, I'm wondering why this Spanish District Superior thought it best to "scoop" the SSPX official publication of its response.

No other District has released any word one way or the other...

I should think it was done to assuage the Latin American community, who thus far have been the least compliant, as a group, with +Fellay's antics.

  • "Common" or "joint" must refer to the General Chapter.

What this means is that the General Council was not going to be left to work out what response to send, and that the response has already been sent.

    Both good.
