  • For those who have read the SSPX official statement on the twenty-fifth anniversary of "Operation Survival," we make the following observation. Was not this an exercise in damage control? The SSPX has been so weakened by its readiness to throw doctrine to the wind in search of a deal with Benedict XVI, that it is now necessary to appear more traditional, while they wait out the term of Francis for a Benedict XVII. The younger conciliar clergy, as the story goes, tend to be more conservative. The older-breed liberal clergy are slowly dying out. It is only a matter of time before the climate becomes more favorable for a deal again. Good and well, if that means the true conversion of neo-Rome back to the Catholic faith. Number 11 of the declaration, however, tells a different story. It leaves the door open to a practical agreement without a doctrinal one.

11- This love of the Church explains the rule that Archbishop Lefebvre always observed: to follow Providence in all circuмstances, without ever allowing oneself to anticipate it. We mean to do the same: either when Rome returns to Tradition and to the Faith of all time -- which would re-establish order in the Church; or when she explicitly acknowledges our right to profess integrally the Faith and to reject the errors which oppose it....

So even if Rome remains modernist, take us in anyway. We will be satisfied to be just another part of the conciliar pantheon, along with the heretics, ecuмaniacs, pantheists, or whatever else is there. The declaration sounds as if there has been a shift back to what the SSPX always stood for, but the door to a deal remains open. Nothing has really changed. It just sounds different. The contents of the can remain the same. The label on the outside just looks a little more like Archbishop Lefebvre.

  • Point 11 is double-speak.  "We reject a deal, but we'll accept a deal."  Used in this docuмent are specific techniques of wording so to play into the emotions and thus dupe the uninitiated.  Have the three Bishops been studying Rules for Radicals?  Because Mr. Alinsky teaches how to do this.  Why do so few fail to recognize it?  It is Communist thinking otherwise known as "dialectical materialism."  So the errors of Russia infect and destroy the SSPX.  Archbishop Lefebvre must be turning in his grave.

St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

During a conference given by Fr. Hewko on May 12, 2013 in Toronto, I asked a question regarding the first of the six conditions of the 2012 SSPX General Chapter to which Fr. Hewko responded that the first condition is an indirect attack against doctrine in that it implicitly promotes religious indifferentism. On a doctrinal level, therefore, the first condition is actually the worst of the six and yet this is the one that is praised as being the bulwark in protecting the SSPX should a canonical agreement be reached prior to Rome's conversion.

Here is the relevant extract of that conference:

  • There have been "red light" issues over these past few years. We were told that the TLM was never properly abrogated and that Quo Primum authorized any priest to celebrate it. Yet, Te Deums were sung when Summorum Pontificuм was issued. We were told that the excommunications were never either just or valid, yet thanks were offered to Newrome upon their being lifted. We have been told that the withdrawal of  canonical recognition  from the SSPX in 1976 by Newrome was not valid as legal procedures were not correctly followed; but now, the very upper crust of the SSPX thinks that canonical recognition freshly issued by the Modernists is a sine qua non for the Society. Is the dialog between the SSPX and the Apostates over?
Even North and South Korea do not permanently shut off avenues for dialog.

Thank you everyone on this thread for your comments.

It seems DAW has the highest stats on CI with 700% approval rating,
100% likers and 0% dislikers.  Congratulations, DAW!

You have put into words what I have been thinking, but I would never
have come up with your style of expression.  It seems to me that you
proffer something much more palatable and possible to share with the
opposition.  When I try to explain it, they get agitated and run away.
So I must be doing something a bit too extreme, and by studying your
approach, I find I have a lot to learn.  So I thank you.

Your imagery is profound and your analysis spot on.  I would say that the
Declaration on the Silver Anniversary of Operation Survival is a thinly
veiled attempt at damage control, as it is ONE STEP BACK, preparing for
TWO STEPS FORWARD, coming soon to an SSPX chapel-near-you!  You
heard it on CI first.  Keep your wicks trimmed and your eyes peeled, those
with eyes to see and wicks to trim!!  WATCH and pray!

Even if Rome remains modernist, well, TAKE US IN ANYWAY!  Pleeeeeease!

This could very well be HEBF*s theme song refrain!

Shall we gather at the river where bright angel feet have trod?

(The Who, 1971 ~ Won't Get Fooled Again) this is probably wrong... but, not bad...

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of our wrongs
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
    Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
    We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
    We knew it all along
We were liberated from the four-minute song
And the world looks just the same
    And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war
