There is no love without charity and no charity without unity. The sin of schism is a sin against charity, for one member to say to the other, "I have no need of you."
If traditional Catholics say to one another "I have no need of you" in the fight against modernism, then the very notion of being consumed with the love of God is a Donatist delusion. Personal orthodoxy be damned. Orthodoxy is not enough. There must be unity in charity, and to be willing to break the bond of unity is to destroy charity, it is to enter into the island world of egoistic self-satisfaction.
"Look at my sacrifices! Look at my lack of compromise! Look at my desire to love Jesus alone!"
"But did you preserve the bond of peace? Did you fight to maintain unity? Or did you just walk away?"
"We fled the encroaching of liberal agendas!"
"And you will keep fleeing under your own destruction, because having severed the connection with charity, you have become nothing but a clanging cymbal.
Keep clanging."
Resistance is not enough. There is no Catholicism without subjection to the Supreme Authority established by Christ. You can't be pseudo-autonomous churches. You belong to Peter or to Satan.
No middle ground. No ecclesial limbo.
