Can someone who has genuine care for souls actually see something like this,
TLM saves Parish from closure and say "Bah! better for them to have never had the TLM, nor be taught the Faith, nor save their parish." I hope you won't do that, Sean, and I hope you don't believe that. "However, the church has been saved thanks to the current Bishop of Providence. In August 2018, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin asked a liturgically traditional order of priests to take charge of St. Mary’s. Father John Berg of the Fraternity of the Priests of Saint Peter (FSSP) is now the pastor and offers Mass solely in the traditional form."
Denying authority and imagining the Catholic and Apostolic Church is something like a Protestant ecclesia-vacantist sect without a Hierarchy of Cardinals and Bishops like some of you do, Sean, is also a form of Modernism. It's not for nothing that His Holiness Pope St. Pius X, in the
Oath against Modernism, commanded us to swear. "I firmly hold, then, and shall hold to my dying breath the belief of the Fathers in the charism of truth, which certainly is, was, and always will be in the succession of the episcopacy from the apostles." There will always be a Catholic Hierarchy. The SSPX Superior General took this Oath upon being elected. The SSPX is 100% anti-Modernist, Doctrinally, Liturgically, and in every other which way. And that's why it rejects any false Resistance ecclesiology, which claims Bp. Athanasius, Bp. Huonder etc have no right to work with us. Bp. Huonder has committed to offering the TLM exclusively. I pray and hope the day is not far when Bp. Athanasius will do the same, being an excellent example to the whole Catholic world.
If anyone claims to be outside or not personally subject to the jurisdiction of the Roman Pontiff, he is outside or not personally subject to the Catholic Church. Period. Knowing the Church has been infiltrated, we cannot obey in everything. But we must do everything reasonable, when a Superior asks it of us, and it is not sinful.
No Traditional Catholic Fraternity is free from difficulties and problems, yet I think the SSPX is easily superior and more effective in promoting the Salvation of Souls and the Glory of God than all others. I would frankly be willing to work together with even reasonable Catholics from the Resistance, yet, I don't see that happening in the near future because of the partisan, "we're the only good ones", Pharisaical, non-Catholic and sectarian attitude that is unfortunately prevalent among some. And it's mainly because such similar sentiments were prevalent once upon a time also in Indult groups (along with the false accusation that the SSPX is schismatic) that working with them (that's changed after Summorum Pontificuм) was practically not possible in many places for a long time.
At least three SSPX priests stationed in St. Marys stated this year that FSSP and the Indult groups are not to be considered as Traditional Catholics. One of them even showed several quotes from he different Indult groups that show that they are not Traditional.
Hi Mr. G. I'll have to see the context and the quotes. Please provide them if you have them. As I said, it's often when the FSSP is being partisan and attacking the SSPX or undermining Tradition in some way in a particular place that the SSPX thereafter doesn't work with it there. But it's entirely different if Novus Ordo parishes are becoming Traditional, and Indult groups are sincerely working for that. Then, collaboration becomes possible. Traditional groups like the ICK also catechize almost exclusively from the old Catechisms and other traditional sources. To say they're not traditional is pure partisan petty politics. But go ahead with that approach if you think it's best and we'll see which bears better fruits.I'm all for principled collaboration wherever possible. But on the terms set by the SSPX. And with the intent of restoring Tradition everywhere.
