Call your priory and see if anyone answers the phone. Call your priest on his cell phone and see if he answers the phone. In our priory you better book ahead your reservation to receive last rites, plan the day you will die, or you won't receive last rites.

It's almost as if doing their job is a bother, an interruption to their routine. It's the Novus Ordo 9-5 priests, with 12-2 pm lunch, all over again.

And on every bulletin, there is the number to the priests cell phone to be used "in cases of emergency or death." I wouldn't call the priory for a death or emergency. Does your priory or chapel list this number?

No number for Priory or cell phones.

I stand corrected, there is a phone number that says for information call X, and I thought that it was a for mass times phone number, it actiually is the priory number. Although nobody ever answers anyways.

....He was treated with a sour, contemptuous and domineering arrogance the whole
time he was there,...He got the
clear impression that to be a 'servant' in France, one would have to endure this
subjugation to oppression daily, to be entirely okay with thinking of yourself as
less than DIRT, and only fit to be trod upon by smug 'superiors.'  He could not
imagine how a whole system (the seminary there) could be set up to carry out
this dungeon-dwelling mindset, unless the administrators somehow took pleasure
in watching the 'pleebs' wallow in their misery.

It makes sense with what I've seen.

BTW: does anyone know what a reasonable gift would be for a priest who makes
a long trip to give emergency Extreme Unction?  $100?  $200?

That is something I haven't thought of. I guess I need to put an envelope with the gift in my Viaticuм box, as well as the other essentials.  I also better gather all the numbers I can and keep them handy.

All I know is what I'm told.  But I have absolutely NO reason to doubt him.

    He is extremely trustworthy.

And no, I cannot and will not reveal his name.  Personal privilege.

For him to have told me as much as he did put his neck on the
chopping block, as we can see.  At the time he explained all this, there was
no such danger, but that was many years ago.  Now, I highly doubt he
would have said "boo" about it to anyone.

    Kapeesh?

I think that you are on to something there. I'd like to start a thread on this subject because I think it may be a common practice in France, to do this to seminarians who they want out. "Might as well use them to do all your dirty work (as slaves) till they quit".

  • I am quite amazed at how many replies there has been to this topic.  The question certainly hit a nerve.

I don't have a priory where I am.  The priest drives a couple hundred miles on interstate highway on Saturday and departs Sunday afternoon.  On occassion he may stay later or arrive earlier.  He has no servants though people in the parish do clean the parish and the living quarters.  I'm not sure how much he could do here anyway.  The only thing I can say is that he does want to spend the parish's money for repairs and upgrades in the chapel though I'm really not in a position to say whether or not these expenditures are really needed or not, but the parish treasurer, while noting that costs have certainly gone up when the SSPX arrived, he can't dispute that the expenditures are for valid or needed or desirable reasons.
