That would have shown how really you cared about the faithful. I am sorry for you that you find beautiful and consoling to see these old ladies and young mothers stay in the rain...

I didn't watch the 6 hour video, so was Fr. Pag in the sanctuary during the consecrations? The sanctuary is off limits for the faithful. Can we even have a sanctuary in a tent for that matter?
Once a mass has begun, the celebrant(s) cannot leave the sanctuary, he ('they' for concelebrations) must absolutely complete the entire Sacrifice of mass.
It would have been extraordinary to witness Fr. Pag. plus 100's of priests exchange places...one for the history books.
Fr. Girouard is asking too much I think, hyperbole maybe?

I was at High mass once, and it was during Lent....An altar boy fainted from fasting, and cut his forehead on a kneeler. The officiating priest was focused on the Mass, and had no concern about the altar boy's condition. And I wasn't about to hop over the communion rail to help. Some others carried him out of the sanctuary, and then we carried him to a bed.

So the bottom line is that nothing can interrupt the Mass.
