  • The pro-life group were unfazed by the critique from Father MacDonald, prior in Athlone. Trads are a small part of their overall grassroots support.

Whilst never ideal, YD could be supported though have always been Vatican II.

    Fr Morgan states.

Father MacDonald, prior in Athlone, had written just previously an article which appeared in our Irish newsletter on these very considerations. He rightly emphasised the immorality of inducing the birth of a non-viable baby in order to save the life of the mother, for such would also constitute an abortion. Whilst the principle of double affect can be invoked when removing, for instance, a diseased uterus, in order to save the life of the mother, with the indirect consequence of the death of an unborn child, a direct attack on the life of the unborn is never permitted.

The article’s assertion that ‘Youth Defence’ is ‘no longer Pro-Life’ also provoked
various responses from readers with calls for clarification on the Society’s
official position. May it suffice to say that whilst the Society endorses entirely the Church’s traditional moral teaching as outlined in the article, the non-doctrinal part of the article simply reflects the considered convictions of its author?

Fr Morgan has distanced himself from Fr MacDonald.

  • For clarification, what I mean by YD being unfazed is their remit is pro-life activism. They are single issue. Their grassroots support has always been diverse. They get support from Trads but also the Medjugorje/Seer/JPII types. The Youth 2000 types are generally good but need to 'Tradify' them. People rally around for rallies, pickets, events but then do their own thing.

Keeping the thread in focus, everyone should agree there is clear teaching regarding abortion.

  • I thought this comment relevant as the woman was married in an SSPX chapel. The comment is in the context of a recent article from the Chairwoman of Precious Life, the sister organisation of Youth Defence.

This is complete lies, there were constant prayers, rosary vigils, we prayed morning noon and night. Bernadette is also not from the republic of Ireland, where she lives is under the jurisdiction of England where they have slaughtered 7 million children and also where panned parenthood is HQed (london). Youth defence and the life Institute have kept abortion out of Ireland for over 25 years, because their methods were effective against the politicians, saving hundreds of thousands of babies. It is a disgrace that people are attacking the wonderful pro life people of Ireland Instead of the politicans.
