  • Update: Fr. Vassal and the SSPX chapel Immaculate Conception Academy ICA in Post Falls, ID is now involved in a huge Sodomy scandal:
    http://www.cathinfo.com/catholic.php/Sodomy-Scandal-in-Post-Falls-ID-SSPX-Immaculate-Conception-Academy

Earlier today I was informed by a friend who goes to the Post Falls Chapel, in which he said that Fr. James Haynos gave a very strong sermon on “OBEDIENCE to the Superior General” at the 9:am High Mass today.

My friend said the main points of Fr. Haynos’ sermon were about:

    •   Hammering “Catholics” who contradict the direction of their priests, going around saying the SSPX is going liberal, and for not listening to the direction of your superiors who are trying to lead you and teach you.
    •   The Pope is the authority, yes he says some bad things, but you must follow him.  Bishop Fellay is the authority, and you need to follow him.
    •   You need to listen to your leaders and obey them.
    •   He described that there is a resistance in Post Falls who are not obeying the priests and causing them difficulty.
    •   The priest cannot do his work that his superiors want him to do.
    •   The SSPX priests, who recently left, only criticize Bishop Fellay, the authority figure, with no substance other than that these priests say that the SSPX is going to go Novus Ordo tomorrow.

    My friends Observations:

    •   First time anything from the pulpit was said on the SSPX crisis.
    •   With this being the first sermon in this issue, it was about hammering the faithful to obey the priest; and to obey Bishop Fellay who is the authority in the SSPX.
    •   It was confirmed that the sermon was pre-approved by Fr. Vassal.

    That's rich.

Talk about a lot of nerve -- accusing the resistance of acting like THEY do.

THEY are the ones who have no substance in their accusations -- always relying on vague smears -- using words like rumor, disinformation, agitation, slander, etc. even though they NEVER GET SPECIFIC or give an example of a rumor that turned out to be false.

  • SSPX priests and religious, and I suppose Third Order members, owe Bishop Fellay obedience as long as they continue to be connected with the Society.  It is not clear to me how lay people who attend SSPX chapels but are not in any sense members of the SSPX owe him anything.  He is not their bishop.  He can;'t be, as he is not an ordinary.  He has no episcopal jurisdiction over anyone.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

Yes, and to add my own observation, I notice in this that the "Resistance" in Post Falls is effective and it is getting to them...

All a sermon like this (as well as the elimination of the Cross Bearer position) will do is increase the support for Fr Pfeiffer's group.

    Indeed!

Perhaps these priests are now going to come out of the "closet".  Bring it on...we all will fight for the Faith!

    Commentary:

    1) You made a grave tactical error when you taught us how to distinguish between true and false obedience!

    2) Unlike yourself, Fr Haynos, we did not forget the lesson!

    3) If you are unashamed to utter such incompetent stupidities from the pulpit (presuming this report is accurate; my apologies if it is not), then let us have open war in the SSPX.

    4) War in every chapel between truth and error.

    5) Accordista betrayers and dupes on one side, and loyalists on the other.

    6) Why don't you just join the FSSP, or start a new order called GREC?

    7) You leave us no option but to organize and fight you from within.

    8) And that is exactly what we are doing!

    9) You are the revolutionaries.

    10) We are the counter-revolutionaries.

    11) You can (apparently) transfer loyalist priests to Antarctica, but your scare tactics have no power over us!

    12) Because we are willing to be martyred, but you are not!

    13) You can have Bishop Fellay and Fr Rostand.

    14) We will take Archbishop Lefebvre and Fr. Barrielle.

    14) You have planted your flag on the wrong side.

I would be curious where he got that.  Because my copy of the Rule says nothing about that.  In the letter I received when I joined, it says:

    Quote
Remember your commitment to the Rule:

    A/ Daily obligations:
    1/ Morning and evening prayers
    2/ Recitation of the Rosary
3/ Attendance at daily Mass, if possible, or a quarter of an hour of prayer.  (Not the Novus Ordo Mass)

B/ Confession every two weeks, if possible, or at least once a month.
C/ A retreat at least every two years.
    D/ Recommended reading.
E/ Fasting on Ember Days, Vigils, and on Fridays
    F/ No television!

In the Third Order booklet, it reiterates those rules, in slightly modified format.  I see nothing in the Rule part of the booklet (or anywhere for that matter) about obedience to the SG.  Frankly, it's hard for me to picture Archbishop Lefebvre writing in the Rule, "G/ Obedience to the Superior General of the SSPX."  That seems bizarre, and if I'd read such a rule before joining, I would have asked what it meant, and probably would not have joined.  I am trying to imagine how that would play out in the real world - for a layperson to promise obedience to the SG of a religious order.  Suppose my wife joined, and a conflict arose between an order from the SG and me, whom would she be obliged to obey?  In any case, the Rule of the Third Order is not binding under pain of sin anyway.
If you can find out from your accordista friend the chapter and verse from the actual Rule of the Third Order where it says that, I would be very interested.   Perhaps they’ve changed the Rule in recent years to add that?  If so, hate to break it to +BF, but I do not feel bound by a Rule I never signed up for.

It does say, under Professional and Social Duties:

"2. To promote and defend the social reign of Our Lord Jesus Christ in society, to combat Liberalism and Modernism, scourges of modern times which are delivering the Church to her enemies."
So as a faithful Third Order member, I feel bound to combat Liberalism and Modernism, even if they come from the SG of the SSPX.

"Hammering" Catholics is the right word.  He even said he'd be in the confessional immediately after, as if all the congregation needed to go confession (for not being blindly obedient to +F and co?   :confused1:).  This sermon fit well with Fr. Vassal's "Change is okay/Vatican II wasn't all bad, so you must eat the parts of the poison cake that aren't poison" catechism class a few weeks ago.  I also find it interesting that Fr. Haynos did the sermon at all 3 Masses, even though Fr. Johnson offered one of them.  Fr. H said other things too.  e.g. He made a big deal about how the SSPX is still not Novus Ordo after all these years.  (As if that proves the Resistance wrong.)  He said the Archbishop only criticized little things in the New Mass.  It is kind of sad, because Fr. H was reputed to have been a little more hard-line/Resistance-minded earlier this year.

    Etc ....

    UNBELIEVABLE.

But then, maybe not.  This is the same priest who gave a sermon in the last couple of months where he said the Crisis in the Church is the fault of the laypeople.[/i]

Was this Archbishop Lefevbre's belief?  I don't recall ever reading this in any of +AB Lefevbre's writings.  Perhaps someone more knowledgable can inform me of this.

Also, the pastor and other priests there are preaching that we need to expose our children to sin/temptations, even possibly *grave* ones in order to "build their virtue".

Someone needs to inform this guy of that (see Sermon XXII pg. 90).  Oh wait, he's been dead for over 200 years ....

This is why +W is right and that the SSPX has become a CULT.  And no doubt everyone sat through yesterday's sermon and did nothing.  Get your weekly "Traditional Latin Mass Product and School".

Vassal.

              :kick-can:

Wow, what a coincidence, we received a similar sermon on obedience at my chapel here in the great state of alligators, snakes, nutra rats and those that can make road kill tasty. :cowboy:
