I'm going to point out the obvious, which is that you didnt really answer the point.
Namely, CREDIBILITY of the accusations and the accusor.
So lets recap.
We have an accusation, not even proven, that he owns a book. Even if true, does that mean he is a magician. Obviously not. It could have been for any number of good reasons. Of course gossip hounds will jump to conclude the worse, when the law of God commands us to presume the best.
The second thing is the actual accusation of him saying he was a magician, which judging on how hyper sensitive people can be could just simply have been a joke. Again, this is obvious to any reasonable person. It could also be misheard. and so on.
So we have NO IDEA who the person was that made this accusation. It is the very definition of hearsay.
And combining that with the people on here like you and lonewolf rushing to spread it, with HIGHLY suspect anti resistance motivations, and a balanced person will reserve judgment on the matter.
