  • I had just finished listening to one of Father Hewko's recent conferences and he ended with a prayer. In the prayer, after asking for the intercession of St. Joseph, he said St. Faustina and the people replied, pray for us.
I just want to clarify first that I'm not accusing Father of being in favor or not of the Divine Mercy devotion. I'm just trying to get some feed back from anyone that might know for sure. Perhaps I didn't hear him correctly or it was a different saint he was talking about. Please take a listen for yourselves. It's at the very end starting at the 28 minute mark.

Just what I thought, whose feast is the day of the sermon.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

Would that be a problem for you if he accepts any of the recent canonizations, even those that were obviously saints? Not to accept them, imo, is definitely in the sedevacantist ballpark.

Unbelievably, I heard someone criticize the use of the title saint when referring to Padre Pio. Really? Is that where this is going? I find that more difficult to swallow than the geocentrism thing. At least doubt can be entertained where that is concerned.

Well, since you can read his mind, I guess we'll take your answer.

But what he said ended with an 'a'.

  • Icterus,

    Are you Parmandur from FE?

  • Date of sermon is Feb 15th, Feast day of Saints Faustinus and Jovita.

Fr. Hewko does clearly say Faustina, but I think it is a verbal blunder. There are 364 other days of the year that his detractors could have made this accusation about Faustina Kowalska believable, however, Feb 15th is not the day to do it.

I myself said the same mistake that day during my family rosary with my children, I said Saints Faustina and Jovita pray for us.

  • At 29:25 of this video - - you will hear Fr. Hewko say that he believes in Sr. Faustina, and that she was "a saintly nun in Poland".  I do believe that he said St. Faustina in that video from last week; but it is quite a coincidence that it is the same day as the feast of St. Faustinus!  What are the odds!?!

As much as I like Fr. Hewko, this is what happens when you accept any teaching/rulings of heretics.  Bishop Williamson says that if you put your pinkie in the modernist soup, all of a sudden it has your elbow, and then your whole arm.  Bp. Williamson at least acknowledged the danger of accepting any of the V2 saints as it gives credit to the heretics in Rome(however, I don't think that he practices that).  My advice - don't accept any!

If I were elected Pope, by the grace of God I would press the delete button on ALL of the last 50+ years of the conciliar church.

"And no man putteth new wine into old bottle: otherwise the new wine will break the bottles, and it will be spilled, and the bottles will be lost. But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved. And no man drinking old, hath presently a mind to new: for he saith, The old is better. "

I had thought that the mix up with the particular feast day of St. Faustinus considered the discussion over but with this video I think it sheds a little more light on the issue on where Father Hewko stands on the Divine Mercy devotion. Good find PG. Thank you.

I may see Fr. Hewko soon.  If I do, I will ask him what he thinks of Divine Mercy and why. Look for an update, okay?
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

The "what" has already been answered, and I care not about the "why".   I recommend that you ask him if he is aware of the bad fruits from Sr. Faustina's dairy.  If he is not aware, then enlighten him.

I'm just trying to be helpful!  Personally, I have never liked the Divine Mercy, although I know trads who pray it.  I admit to going by feminine intuition on this one, but there's something about the prayers, the image, and the photo of Sr. Faustina that "gives me the creeps." Much better to pray 15 decades than waste any time on devotions of a questionable nature.
