  • I received this e-mail:

Please pray for Father Diaz who is critically ill. He was here briefly about 10 years ago and is currently assigned to the SSPX chapel of Jesus and Mary in El Paso, TX. His brother, my compadre, informed me today that he underwent emergency surgery for a perforated duodenum in the early morning hours and is currently intubated in the intensive care unit with an open abdomen due to the large amount of inflammation from peritonitis. Plans are to return to the OR on Tuesday to wash out and close his abdomen. St. Cosmas and Damien (whose feast days are this Wednesday), please intercede!

  •    Poor Father Diaz.  I knew him well at STAS, about as well as one can know someone who is as quiet as he is, a very good man and seminarian, and I imagine a wonderful priest also (though I didn't know him after ordination).

  • He's the second priest from the left (front row) at his ordination, 1993, and my departed brother Steve was an MC for the ordination (he's just behind Bishop Williamson, over his left shoulder -- or right from our perspective, just to the right of the split between the doors).

  • He has my prayers.

I remember Fr. Diaz from a retreat long ago.  He might have not yet been ordained.  I think it was hard for him since he did not have very good English, but he was very kind.

  • for a successful surgery. May he heal quickly without complication. May his sufferings be

offered for those who need them most, and may he feel the presence of Our Lord and Our
Mother Mary beside him.  St. Timothy and Saint Edmund, pray for him!

  • Here is an update:

The surgeon was able to close Father's abdomen today! Thank you, St. Cosmas and Damian and all who have prayed for their intercession. He remains intubated but closure of the abdomen is a critical milestone in order for him to be extubated (hopefully tomorrow) and begin a long road of recovery.

    Deo gratias et Mariae

Aren't Sts Cosmas and Damian wonderful? I caught some nasty dengue a few days ago. Yesterday when I remembered that it was their feast I simply said "St Cosmas and Damian, pray for me" and instantly started to feel better.
    ¡Viva Jesús!
