• Thank you Eddie. I still couldn't find his reason for leaving the SSPX.

  • I am a bit confused. From the letter:

    Quote
My dear friends, many of you suffered and will continue to suffer in difficulties we have in our combat for the Holy Church: to keep the true doctrine we received like an inheritance. Don’t despair. Don’t fall into bitterness. The Society of Saint Pius X is faithful to the truth. Your criterion has to be simple in the Crisis: to stay in peace, quiet, if they don’t change anything you received: the Catholic Mass, the sacraments and the Catechism transmitted by the Holy Church in the past. Even if we or an angel from heaven should preach (to you) a gospel other than the one that we preached to you, let that one be anathema!

    Quote
However it has to be clear: obedience and respect to the authority in the Church are not an obligation to accept something endangering the faith or the salvation of the souls. Because we received the priesthood to transmit the treasure of the faith; to continue faithfully the work of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We don’t have authority to innovate. We cannot be an obstacle to the salvation of souls. If some catholic has some evidences of this situation, he can disobey with peace of his conscience. We must obey God rather than men....

    Quote
I had to leave my Congregation because I stayed in the sad situation when we have to say “no” in conscience. I hope it will be not the same for you. And it will never be an obstacle for me to recognize all the good done by the Society of Saint Pius X.

So the SSPX "is faithful to the truth" but then he hints that the faith is endangered there and that he had to follow his conscience by refusing something from the SSPX. My head is spinning.

This letter contains practically no information.

I had some serious problems in the apostolate of my Congregation, the Society of Saint Pius X.

I had to leave it, unfortunately.

These problems were about our work of priests:  several souls were left in danger of eternal damnation. And we are priests to save souls.

It was a great suffering to take this decision, because I have a lot of gratitude for the Society of Saint Pius X.

It gave me my formation of young man and seminarian.

I know a lot of priests in it and I have a great admiration for them.

So, I would like to say here very clearly that I don’t want to attack the Society.

It is doing a good work in the whole world; I received these fruits like many people.

It is very faithful to Catholic doctrine, to the Church and to the Pope.

It is nurturing a lot of vocations and is trying to fight against the world, by the formation of an elite.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said: Each tree is known by its fruit.

I don’t have any doubt about my priesthood: I will not leave my vocation, because it was a gift of the infinite love of God.

On the contrary, my hope is with His grace, to answer more and more properly serving the souls who don’t know Him.

    ...

I had to leave my Congregation because I stayed in the sad situation when we have to say “no” in conscience.

    ...

It raises more questions than it answers.

  • Important letter but there are quite of few contradictory statements in it though; compare this:

    Fr. de Chambord
    Quote
"I have to tell you some sad news. I had some serious problems in the apostolate of my Congregation, the Society of Saint Pius X. I had to leave it, unfortunately. These problems were about our work of priests: several souls were left in danger of eternal damnation. And we are priests to save souls."

    With this:

    Quote
"It is doing a good work in the whole world; I received these fruits like many people. It is very faithful to Catholic doctrine, to the Church and to the Pope."

If it is "faithful to Catholic Doctrine", how can it leave, at the same time, "several souls in danger of eternal damnation"???

Or yet on this other paragraph, where he says:

    Quote
"My dear friends, many of you suffered and will continue to suffer in difficulties we have in our combat for the Holy Church: to keep the true doctrine we received like an inheritance. Don’t despair. Don’t fall into bitterness.

    And right after:

    Quote
"The Society of Saint Pius X is faithful to the truth."

Again, if it is faithful to the truth, why did we suffer, why will we continue to suffer in "keeping our true doctrine and our inheritance"?

Now let's look at this one:

    Quote
"Your criterion has to be simple in the Crisis: to stay in peace, quiet, if they don’t change anything you received: the Catholic Mass, the sacraments and the Catechism transmitted by the Holy Church in the past. Even if we or an angel from heaven should preach (to you) a gospel other than the one that we preached to you, let that one be anathema!"

Since he didn't stay "in peace and quiet" himself, is there any doubt they have already changed "the Catholic Mass, the sacraments and/or the Catechism transmitted in the past"?

    Quote
"However it has to be clear: obedience and respect to the authority in the Church are not an obligation to accept something endangering the faith or the salvation of the souls".

Is the SSPX "forcing him to accept something endangering the faith or the salvation of souls"?

    Quote
Because we received the priesthood to transmit the treasure of the faith; to continue faithfully the work of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Apparently he could no longer do that within the new SSPX.

    Quote
We don’t have authority to innovate. We cannot be an obstacle to the salvation of souls.

That means he has witness both innovations and obstacles to save souls.

    Quote
"If some catholic has some evidences of this situation, he can disobey with peace of his conscience. We must obey God rather than men".

"I had to leave my Congregation because I stayed in the sad situation when we have to say “no” in conscience. I hope it will be not the same for you".

I think we can safely say he has some evidence, can't we?

  • The SSPX priory in Sanford-FL, under Fr. Marc Vernoy, is a strategic place for one thing or another; they'll either corrupt or help those of good will to see the corruption!

This particular case seemed to have backfired on them though.

Oh, and yes, Fr. Vernoy told the whole Chapel last Sunday, from the pulpit, that Fr. de Chambord wouldn't come back because he was sick.

  • Was Father Fr. De Chambord a priest at the Sanford Chapel? I went down there last Christmas to witness my first Solemn Mass, and I think he served as deacon. That week when I was down there, he made a reference to people going to " Jacksonville" ( which is the main Chapel for the Resistance in Florida, which my family attends) and he proceeded to have a newly ordained Benedictine from the parish, Father Elias, perform an exorcism on the congregation to " dispel disunity". This did make us feel uneasy :scared2:, as we had openly told them that we attend the "Jacksonville" Chapel prior to Mass.

Sounds to me like they denied sacraments to faithful there and he didn't like it. But that's just a guess. I'd rather like to know what he's talking about.

I met him once in 2010, if I remember correctly. He was working at the Priory of Santa Maria, RS, Brazil, and visited our tiny diaspora crowd here in F'polis. It was a pleasure to meet him.

No doubt sick of Vernoy's temper tantrums - if he still has these.

  • While I don't know this situation personally, I imagine it is a diplomatic situation.  If he says he is leaving for personal reasons, then the Society won't assault him and discredit him like they have done to other priests.

  • from the letter:
    Quote
Remember: in our combat we must do everything with charity, including our differences. We cannot
judge anybody. Judge not and you will not be judged. We must defend the doctrine: we don’t need to attack
    individuals
    .

"Charity" - This priest went to the seminary in  Argentina under Bp. Williamson. He was ordained by Bp. Williamson. Bp. Williamson, at 72 years of age was thrown out of his home by Fellay & the Menzingen petty tyrants crowd.

"We must defend the doctrine, we don’t need to attack individuals" - This priest was last stationed at Sanford, Florida, under a prior that uses as his modus operandi the ad-hominem attack and detracting against the individual, and never discussing the doctrinal differences.

    Correction:

This priest went to the seminary in  Argentina under Bp. Williamson. He was ordained  a deacon by Bishop Williamson. BpW was removed as rector of the seminary on January 31st 2009, and Fr. de Chambord was ordained a priest by Bp. Galarreta in December 2009.

  • Leaving SSPX does not mean one is leaving the Roman Catholic church.

Sounds like he feels it is impossible for him to fulfill the mission of the Church there, which is to save souls.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • FYI, I tried obtaining certain clarifications from the priest questioned here but have yet to receive a response.
