Contact info for vocational advice?

  • I would like to consult a priest of the Resistance about my vocational discernment.  Does anyone have any recommendations as to whom to contact, and how I might contact him?  Ideally - but not necessarily - it would be a priest who is sympathetic to the pre-1962 liturgy and/or knows something about the traditional Benedictine monasteries (which are, at this point, I believe, Santa Cruz in Brazil and San José in Columbia).  I wrote to Bishop Williamson two weeks ago but I haven't gotten a response yet - I'm sure His Excellency is very busy.

Any leads would be very much appreciated!  Please pray for my discernment.  A blessed Candlemas to you all.

  • I also am wondering whether I will ever join a monastery one day. I have applied to some before. Perhaps you should research the Benedictines of Silver City new mexico, or the dominicans associated with the sspx resistance in France. I think they are in Avrille because they are mentioned on this forum every now and then. I am not a person to go to for advice on this matter, and I think it best to get answers from a priest, or number of priests, but if you find out information on a traditional monastery, post your findings here to help me.

  • Dom Tomas is the one you would want to speak with at the Monastery in Nova Friborgo, Brazil. He speaks English though I don't know to what extent. We always speak in Portuguese. One day he said a few words to me in English and that's how I learned that he spoke good English.

You will enjoy the Mosteiro da Santa Cruz. It is a very good environment. I stayed there 3 or 4 days, and you might get a chance to meet the growing resistance groups thriving here in Brazil. You will require a visa with your passport even for visiting. I would recommend visiting first before jumping right in to anything. Even though Brazil is very advanced, I would still consider it part of the developing or 3rd world. It isn't for everyone. I recommend coming to check it out first if you get a chance and start studying Portuguese now. Spanish is easier and gets you by but basic Portuguese is necessary.

I will post the site of Dom Tomas de Aquino. It has an option in English, and you will also find contact information. Good luck!

Also another resistance priest will be starting a seminary for the resistance here in Brazil also. Just something to keep in mind.
We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...

  • Be patient.  Bishop Williamson is usually pretty good at responding. However, he also travels to foreign countries pretty regularly so may take a sometime to get back to you.  God bless and good luck.
