  • In this article, the SSPX is sure not to inform you that the women's retreats are at a conciliar retreat house in Minnesota.  What they DO tell you is that the retreats are at this location because it is not fitting for women to quietly be segregated for a retreat in this "house of prayer" for the brothers:

"Due to the nature of Holy Angels Novitiate as a house of prayer for the SSPX Brothers first and foremost, women's retreats will not be available at the novitiate, but will be hosted at Christ the King Retreat Center in Buffalo, MN."
    https://sspx.org/en/news-events/news/mens-ignatian-vocations-retreats-holy-angels-novitiate-womens-buffalo-mn-47435

    That's very pious of them.

Now let's crank up the music and bring in the kegs and beer tents!

    https://sspx.org/en/news-events/news/faithful-congregate-holy-angels-novitiate-jubilee-celebration-48400

Yes, yes, I can see why a silent retreat of segregated women would pose a severe disruption to this house of prayer, and why beer tents, seminary tours, and live music were perfectly in keeping with same.

Of course, it would be exceedingly rash to suggest the SSPX wanted to conciliarize the womenfolk at the diocesan retreat house.

  • "Roll out the barrel" in Latin?
Romans 5:20 "But where sin increased, grace abounded all the more."

-I retract any and all statements I have made that are incongruent with the True Faith, and apologize for ever having made them-

  • I think this is even more problematic:

The Brothers’ Novitiate in Winona, MN hosted a Jubilee Weekend to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the blessing of the cornerstone of the building.

How conciliar of them to even consider the "birthday" of the building before the SSPX bought it. How "part of the Conciliar Church" of them.

See what they're doing? (again!) I know the neo-SSPX does this kind of thing literally every day now, but let me point it out: They are placing ALL the years of this building, including its Conciliar era (when a classroom was called "The Red Room" and co-ed dances were held there), the post-Conciliar decrepit era, and the 1990-present "SSPX Era" all on the table, and celebrating the whole lot! Placing all 3 on an equal footing. Don't you see the problem there?

There's something wrong with this mentality. We're not celebrating the building. We're celebrating the SSPX taking possession of the building and using it to help the Church by forming traditional Catholic priests.

Even the blessing of the foundation: sure, it was valid since it was pre-Conciliar. But didn't the SSPX have to re-bless and consecrate the building after they bought it? I sure hope they did, considering everything in the building was desecrated for many years. Boys used to PLAY in the main chapel! That's another reason why you can't celebrate "the whole life of the building". The building isn't a person. Its feelings aren't going to be hurt if you ignore it's physical birthday.

We might as well celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the building, since the limestone existed in the nearby quarry back then.

Besides, is it even normal to throw a big party and celebrate the 50th or 70th anniversary of a church? There would be celebrations all the time. The Catholic Church isn't a retail store, where 50 years is an impressive run. Church buildings are normally measured in hundreds of years. Even in the United States, most Catholic churches are 100+ years old, unless they are modernist, post-Conciliar, wreckovated pieces of trash.

The old seminary building was built as a Dominican novitiate. After Vatican II, they used to have co-ed dances there. If I recall correctly, the dances were held in a room called "the Red Room". Not surprisingly, the Dominicans and every other religious order collapsed after Vatican II. That's why the building fell into disrepair and ruin.

See why we need to be Traditional, and completely reject Vatican II as we would the devil himself?

It was used by some kind of boys home for a while -- in the main chapel, boys used to jump from the choir loft to the floor below, landing on a bunch of mattresses arranged there.
But it was around this point (shortly after?) that the building was severely damaged by being completely abandoned, at which point the pipes burst in the winter, etc.

The building is only in one piece today because TRADITIONAL CATHOLICS still had vocations and had enough benefactor money together to buy the place and fix it up. The building only became great after Traditionalists got their hands on it!

I got all this from various SSPX Brothers who had been there "forever". Maybe a bit was from Fr. Goettler or other SSPX priest conferences as well.

I want to underline a point: it's not that "live music" (a couple Catholic Faithful performing decent music) or drinking beer in moderation outside of Lent on a non-fast-day (we're not Baptists) is a problem.
The problem is that this is a contradiction with their previous assertion, that a segregated womens' silent retreat would "disturb this house of prayer" but a large party would not.
The point is to underline the self-contradiction, and to point out why their lame excuse is complete hogwash.
It shows that the womens' retreat was moved to a Conciliar location for nefarious reasons -- not for the silly "official reasons" given, which were no more than excuses.

I agree that this whole thing is a contradiction and a psy-op to further the integration into novus-ordo thinking.  But what about the other obvious problem - who has a party to celebrate a building?  It didn't even start out as a church, right?  Seems to me that this is an event planned so that
    .
    1) the new-sspx can replace the former festival/celebrations in june when the ordinations were held there.  It's a sad reminder that this seminary is now empty of priests.  Now the june party can continue, which many people were used to.  It lessens the shock of of the sheeple.
    2) the new-sspx now has a use for Winona.  Many have complained that the Virginia building was unnecessary.  If the new-sspx didn't do anything with Winona, that would highten the complaints.
    3) the new-sspx can drum up support for their "brotherhood" initiative, so that they can suck in all those men who might be ordained but were deemed too assertive or problematic.  Now they sspx can keep tabs on them after they kick them out of the seminary.  Can send them to be brothers and prevent them from joining a true Trad seminary.

  • I don't know, the blessing of the cornerstone was pre-VII and it was probably a beautiful affair. If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, I don't see how this would be a bad one. I've seen it done before, even if it isn't that common. If there was unhappy desecration in its past, there's all the more reason to celebrate the grace that has come to that building since. The Ordinations used to provide a social camping weekend in Winona and I can see how recreating that will make a lot of people happy. There is so much nostalgia there. If we could I'd take any reason to go back annually like that.

But the point about the contradiction still stands either way. It's tough to be convinced that a quiet, orderly women's retreat will be such a disruption while this annual party that probably takes weeks (months?) to plan and prepare for, and then clean up after, is not considered a disruption. Piled high among aaaallll the other little things, this fits right in as one more effort to get people comfortable with conciliar places and people. The SSPX leadership has zero qualms about working with the conciliarists anymore, that is obvious.

  • A nostalgic party promoting a brotherhood at a formerly thriving seminary-now-useless-building is a waste of time and a poor excuse to move a retreat.  Another example of placing temporal needs over spiritual.  The new-sspx is all about "making people happy" as they sell their souls to new-rome.

  • But the party is not the excuse to move the retreat. They aren't saying they can't do retreats because they are doing the party.

  • Indirectly, they are.  This celebration is part of the brotherhood's "life of prayer", which is more important than a spiritual retreat.
