  • General Chapter final address

    JULY 21, 2018

    BY FSSPX.NEWS

At the close of its General Chapter, the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X calls to mind the importance and timeliness of the declaration made by its founder, Marcel Lefebvre, on November 21, 1974.  More than fifty years of the Church’s “self-destruction” allow one fully to appreciate the soundness of that declaration, which the Society embraces in its entirety:
“We hold fast, with all our heart and with all our soul, to Catholic Rome, Guardian of the Catholic Faith and of the traditions necessary to preserve this faith, to Eternal Rome, Mistress of wisdom and truth. (…)
No authority, not even the highest in the hierarchy, can force us to abandon or diminish our Catholic Faith, so clearly expressed and professed by the Church’s Magisterium for twenty centuries. (…)
That is why we hold fast to all that has been believed and practiced in the faith, morals, liturgy, teaching of the catechism, formation of the priest and institution of the Church, by the Church of all time; to all these things as codified in those books published before the Modernist influence of the Council. This we shall do until such time that the true light of Tradition dissipates the darkness obscuring the sky of Eternal Rome.”
The Priestly Society of Saint Pius X intends to pursue its principal purpose, which is the priesthood as Our Lord Jesus Christ instituted it, and always to keep the priesthood focused on its very reason for existing: the holy sacrifice of the Mass. The Society is enlivened by the same sentiments as Saint Pius X, its patron saint:
"To eliminate all vain delusions for such, We say to them with emphasis that We do not wish to be, and with the Divine assistance never shall be aught before human society but the Minister of God, of whose authority We are the depositary. The interests of God shall be Our interest, and for these We are resolved to spend all Our strength and Our very life. Hence, should anyone ask Us for a symbol as the expression of Our will, We will give this and no other: "To renew all things in Christ.'" (E supremi apostolatus, October 4, 1903.)
With the same faith and the same hope as this holy pope, the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X, through its preaching and apostolate, proclaims Our Lord Jesus Christ’s dominion over all men and all nations, such that his rights and authority be acknowledged and venerated by all. For this reason the Society continues to work for the triumph of Christ the King and invites all souls of good will to join in this stirring supernatural endeavor.
Sorrowful and immaculate heart of Mary, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

  • Of course they're going to opt for something very conservative and "Trad" sounding for this particular moment.

However, the real test will be their actions.

Hmm, lots of "..." in this declaration.

Here is what the SSPX is REALLY saying:

At the close of its General Chapter, the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X calls to mind the importance and timeliness of part of the declaration made by its founder, Marcel Lefebvre, on November 21, 1974.

More than fifty years of the Church’s “self-destruction” allow one fully to appreciate the soundness of that declaration, even if we lack the courage to quote any part of it which implicates modernist Rome, and which the Society pretends to embrace in its entirety:

“We hold fast, with all our heart and with all our soul, to Catholic Rome, Guardian of the Catholic Faith and of the traditions necessary to preserve this faith, to Eternal Rome, Mistress of wisdom and truth. (…), and refuse to any longer make any distinction between modernist and heretical Rome, and Catholic Rome.
No authority, not even the highest in the hierarchy, can force us to abandon or diminish our Catholic Faith so clearly expressed and professed by the Church’s Magisterium for twenty centuries, even though we have helped them to do precisely that, (…).

That is why we hold fast to all some of what that has been believed and practiced in the faith, morals, liturgy, teaching of the catechism, formation of the priest and institution of the Church, by the Church of all time; to all some of these things as codified in those books (excepting our former rejection of the new Code of Canon Law, and any defense of our apostolate based on supplied jurisdiction and the state of necessity growing worse daily) published before the Modernist influence of the Council.

This we shall do until such time that the true light of Tradition dissipates the darkness obscuring the sky of Eternal Rome, which we have repeatedly explained to you already shows signs of lifting.

The Priestly Society of Saint Pius X intends to pursue its principal purpose (which no longer has anything to do regarding protecting souls from Roman and worldwide modernism), and which is now exclusively the priesthood as Our Lord Jesus Christ instituted it, and always to keep the priesthood focused on its very reason for existing: the holy sacrifice of the Mass, while ignoring any manifestation of Roman and conciliar modernism, as our brothers in the Ecclesia Dei communities have finally convinced us is the proper orientation towards the crisis. The Society deludes itself that it is enlivened by the same sentiments as Saint Pius X, its patron saint:

"To eliminate all vain delusions for such, We say to them with emphasis that We do not wish to be, and with the Divine assistance never shall be aught before human society but the Minister of God, of whose authority We are the depositary. The interests of God shall be Our interest, Who not in the least wants us to fight for the restoration of His Church, but rather wants us to ordain some priests and say the Mass, and for these to ensure we never resume our former objections to the conciliar and post-conciliar errors, or slip back into a posture of combatting them wherever they manifest themselves, we are resolved to spend all Our strength and Our very life. Hence, should anyone ask Us for a symbol as the expression of Our will, We will give this and no other: "We really like the old Mass.'" (E supremi apostolatus, October 4, 1903.)

With the same faith and the same hope as fuzzy sentiments for this holy pope, the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X, through its preaching and apostolate seminaries and Latin Masses, proclaims Our Lord Jesus Christ’s dominion over all men and all nations (despite this very doctrine being contradicted by Dignitatis Humanae, which we recently discovered most people really didn't understand, and which was really very limited)), such that his rights and authority be acknowledged and venerated by all, so long as they choose such. For this reason the Society cannot really be taken seriously when it pretends to continues to work for the triumph of Christ the King and invites all souls of good will to join in this stirring supernatural endeavor.

Sorrowful and immaculate heart of Mary, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

  • Good catch.

    1. Much of what they said contradicts their actions, especially of the past 6 years, as well as their current orientation.
    2. Most of what is deficient in this statement (above) is what they DIDN'T say, rather than what they said. But even the great-sounding things they said are contradicted by their very actions!

  • Also notice how they stopped quoting the Archbishop right before he talks about refusing Neo-modernist and Protestant Rome.

  • They also invite souls to join this “supernatural endeavor”, not to leave the newChurch and convert, just “journey and dialogue with us!”
