Introduction:

According to a report by Diane Montagna a few days ago, Cardinal Victor Fernandez “has prepared a declaration of schism should the Society of St. Pius X proceed with episcopal consecrations in Écône on July 1. The Vatican is also making pastoral arrangements to welcome those who may leave the SSPX after it ordains new bishops without papal permission.”

Why the Excommunications Are a Good Thing:
All that said, even those who observe the papal vacancy should cheer for the upcoming episcopal consecrations and the ensuing excommunications (even despite the incoherence of the R&R position), for a number of reasons:

Declared excommunications are the best possible outcome for the recovery of the Church, because the largest traditional Catholic organization will finally make a definitive break with the conciliar authority. I think that’s something we can all get behind.
Excommunications will evince that the consecrations are not a mutually agreed upon furtherance of the ralliement (i.e., with Rome deciding upon some liberal candidates it can live with in exchange for good behavior and a continued and gradual acceptance of conciliarism).
Excommunications will clarify party lines between trads and conciliarists (i.e., vs the current muddled specter of SSPX trads trying to be acceptable to conciliarists in pursuit of approval).
Excommunications will torpedo the ralliement for at least another generation, and the SSPX may be encouraged to find its old voice again.
The threat of (worthless) legal repercussions may purify the ranks of clergy and faithful who have diluted the esprit d’corps of the Society, with conciliar and covid refugees who only came because the legal obstacles had been removed (e.g., Francis granting jurisdiction for confessions, etc.).
A definitive break with the counterfeit church should have the effect of calling into question the legitimacy of the popes and council which created it (or at least cause one to question the possibility, as did Lefebvre).
As in 1988, excommunication from the counterfeit church would serve as a badge of honor, and demonstrate to the clergy and faithful that their leaders are not in communion with a conciliar church and hierarchy.
For all these reasons, I say “anathema sit!”

The novus ordo apologist E Michael Jones is probably wetting his pants as he never misses an opportunity to declare
the SSPX to be in schism.

To be excommunicated by a flaming fαɢɢօt; and the problem is? Excommunication is 100% the best thing that could possibly happen to the SSPX. Time to separate the weak from the strong!

Just curious, has anyone heard of priests that may have already left? I imagine those that are part of the Society and joined the seminary/were ordained with the idea that it was all peaches and cream with Rome, must now be rethinking their position. I wouldn't think they'd wait till the actual declaration of schism to leave.

Personally I don't expect many to leave, most of the ones that make it through their seminaries are drones who are fiercely loyal to the Society and will follow wherever the wind blows them.

No sooner are my spirits lifted by the prospect of what seems to be imminent “excommunications” for the SSPX, then I’m abruptly doused with the cold water of a communication from a friend, opining that the GREC plan for the reinsertion of the SSPX into the conciliar church is in full swing.

A story on FSSPX.news reports that the same +Schneider has just visited a Society school in Poland, discussing his early life under communist rule. The fact that the mutual praise between +Schneider and the SSPX continues, and that the Society continues to insinuate conciliar bishops into the normal life of the SSPX apostolate (a thing which was exceedingly rare before 2012), +Schneider in particular, has caused a friend to caution me on my optimism in the last article, suggesting that the Kabuki Theatre is not only alive and well, but that the big surprise will be that not only will Leo permit the consecrations (despite all the noise about the preparation of a declaration of schism), but driving the final nail into the coffin of the Society, will declare that the primary consecrating bishop will not be Fellay or de Galarreta, but in this scenario, +Schneider will be made the head of a personal prelature, and perform the SSPX consecrations himself!
