Summary of +TdM Ordinations sermon, 15 June 2012, Winona

I attended Ordinations Mass today in Winona, Minnesota, and will try to give a brief summary of Bishop Tissier de Mallerais's sermon based on my notes. If anyone else was there and would like to clarify or correct my assessment, please feel free to do so. I would guess there will be a transcript available within the next day or two. It's hard to estimate, but I would say there were 1500 - 2000 faithful present and perhaps 50 or more priests. There were 12 deacons and 8 priests ordained.

The bishop started by identifying St. Stephen as the model for the deacons and St. John as the model for the priests. He spoke first of St. Stephen, in particular his qualities of chastity (purity) and strength of faith. These qualities enabled him to stand firm against the Jєωs, "who were resisting the Holy Ghost," even though it would cost him his life. +TdM named the church of Vatican II as today's version of those resisting the Holy Ghost, calling it a "false religion" and a "naturalistic" one.

The bishop then moved on to St. John. Again he focused on St. John's unwillingness to compromise with the heretics of his day. He stressed that St. John was not restricted to merely "nice" virtues but that he had rather "the strength of a lion" when it came to opposing the Jєωs, who were opposed to Christ. Specifically, he said that St. John fought against "the religion of man made God" by criticizing it directly. Again he tied this to our present circuмstances by saying that Vatican II has done just this: made a divinity out of man. Furthermore, though it recognizes Christ as God, it does not recognize Him as King in society. The bishop insisted that St. John is the saint to help us see how to fight against those who do not recognize the kingship of Christ, that we must therefore continue to struggle against the VII modernists, "who are destroying the remains of Christendom."

All of this seemed to me to be preparing us for his final statements, which were dramatic, direct, and uncompromising--words to the effect of the following: In no way can the Society accept any kind of agreement with the soul of this new religion. Let us continue this fight for the truths of the Faith. (There was more, but it was too fast and poignant for me to catch in precise quotations.)

He then exhorted the new priests to preach this message, that Christ is a King, and to fight unceasingly against the modernists of Rome. He said that this is the ongoing fight of the SSPX, as perceived by its founder, Archbishop Lefebvre.

He also near the end made recourse to the Blessed Virgin, specifically stressing the purity of her immaculate faith (which seemed to me a return to where the sermon started, with the "chastity" of St. Stephen).

[Personal note: I was deeply grateful for this sermon. In my opinion, +TdM could not have been more heroic at this particular juncture in the Society's history. He did not flinch. He did not equivocate. He did not allow for any kind of courtship with modernist Rome. He spoke what I perceive to be the Truth, in all its hard glory.]

  • Viva Cristo Rey!!! Viva Immaculata, Nuestra Senora del Buen Suceso de la Purificacion!!!

My husband and I always knew that Bp. Tissier should have been Superior General instead of Fellay.  :incense:

  • Wow -- hooray for TRUE unity in the (true) SSPX!

United in the truth with Bishop Williamson, Bishop de Gallareta and all the faithful priests and faithful laymen -- both known and unknown.

I agree, he would have made a great Superior General -- though +Williamson would certainly do an equally great job :)

  • Many thanks for posting this video!... Powerful! (especially considering the audience).

It's great to learn that Fr Jos Pfeiffer was there:

Matthew, perhaps this video should have a dedicated thread???

  •  :rahrah: I am moved to tears after just listening to our holy bishop's sermon.
Ever since I joined SSPX I have always been so moved and so blessed to hear him speak. He is so
right on..so moved by the Holy Ghost!! "Conserve the tradition of the Church"...."doctrinal purity..charity..the Kingship of Christ"  this is our Faith. This is what we need to hear and read. Thanks again for this forum and for sharing the news of his sermon!!

  • I think we need to remember that it's one thing to do this in St. Nicolas in Paris where you know that at least a good number of the priests and faithful are on your side and to go to the United States, where there is considerable, high placed opposition. This, for me, is the sign of a real fighter. Well done, Monsenor!  :boxer:
