So "knew this was coming" ... this was actually unprecedented and unexpected, EXCEPT if you paid attention when Bishop Fellay in a sundowner moment, let it slip that the laity would be excommunicated.
When he did that, it was in fact SO unexpected and unprecedented that I immediately speculated that it was part of the plan, the long game.
This also suggests that +Fellay had prior knowledge, i.e that +Fellay was in on the entire thing, the plan, since he's spent over a decade setting up for precisely this moment.
As I pointed out, the long game involved Bergs giving jurisdiction to SSPX, which in turn led to a swelling of lay attendance at SSPX chapels, which in turn led to some absurdly imprudent spending (seminary, Immaculata, many chapels in large debt, barely staying afload), which means that ... if lay attendance drops even 25%, they're finished. We're talking total financial ruin and collapse, where creditors are going to be seizing all kinds of SSPX assets, even those paid for. That increase in attendance, furthermore, consisted largely of laity that SSPX could lure in with "look, we have jurisdiction", when they would not have come over prior to that. Then, on top of that, you spend a decade denouncing the Resistance for rejecting at least trying to be in communion with Rome.
I always found the spending projects so utterly ridiculous that ... I had this suspicion that "an enemy hath done this", and that it was in fact the setup for something. You could have spent 2-3 million and put a fantastic new building on the grounds at Winona, or build a chapel at St. Mary's for MUCH less than what they spent, and the chapel in our area is very badly in debt also, and I've heard the same about many others. This HAD TO have all been done on purpose, so no one in their right mind would have taken on this much debt.
Perhaps the entire time you had Jaidhoff and Krah egging them on, "go ahead, we've got your back financially".
Now +Fellay will turn to Krah and say, "Save us, Krah. We perish!" ...
to which Krah will respond ...
