  • Yeah, I'm afraid that a lot of this has crossed my mind.  Unfortunately it has taken my mind in directions that are very uncharitable towards Bishop Fellay.

I have suspected for a while that the Rosary Crusades were cynically engineered by Bishop Fellay in order to give the impression that Our Lady was blessing his efforts at reconciling with Rome, that there was collusion with Rome on these intentions.

Here's the most cynical of the scenarios that have crossed my mind.

    _____

Vatican:  You need to bring most of the SSPX with you for this to work.

+Fellay:  To do that I'll have to find a way to sell this to them.  Perhaps as a gesture of goodwill you could free up the Tridentine Mass and lift the excommunications.

Vatican:  Well, we won't free up the New Mass, but we can issue a smoke-and-mirrors docuмent that would replace the Indult, making the New Mass permitted except when forbidden rather than forbidden except when permitted.

+Fellay:  Yeah, most of the SSPX sheep would buy that.

+Fellay:  How about I orchestrate a Rosary Crusade for these two intentions?  Then when we're done you guys can "magically" make it so that it appears that the crusades were answered and that Our Lady approved of the reconciliation.

Vatican:  Brilliant stratagem.  There's a red hat waiting for you if you can pull this off.
    _____

In other words, that these "conditions" were based on collusion between the Vatican and +Fellay, rather than unilateral conditions laid out by +Fellay playing "hardball" with the Vatican, in order to convince SSPX members that Our Lady was blessing his efforts.

I wonder what could be the most NON-cynical scenario that could be devised?

Taking what +Fellay says at face value obviously.

  • Wanting a structure in the Church is a GOOD thing.
When and how is a prudential decision, not a doctrinal one.

  • Yes.  Liars and deceivers are not necessarily heretics.

  • While attempting to know and follow God's will, one sometimes has to change a previous decision or prudentially try another course of action. It is not lying or deception, but is exactly what every good person should do.

    In the conciliar church?

    Quote

We have never wished to belong to this system which calls itself the Conciliar Church, and defines itself with the Novus Ordo Missæ, an ecuмenism which leads to indifferentism and the laicization of all society.

God's will cannot be something that leads to mix truth with falsehood.
