  • Number CCCLXIII (363)                             June 28, 2014

    Cardinal Pie – I
Cardinal Pie (1815–1880) was a great churchman of 19th century France, one of the great defenders of the Faith against that liberalism which was eating up the world from the French Revolution (1789) onwards. Pope Pius X kept his works by his bedside and read them constantly. No doubt the Cardinal’s profound grasp of the key ideas driving the modern world played a major part in enabling Pius X to obtain a 50-year reprieve, say from 1907 to 1958, for the doomed Catholic Church.

Doomed? But the Catholic Church cannot be doomed! True, by God’s protection it will last to the end of the world (Mt. XXVIII, 20), but at the same time by God’s Word we know that by then the Faith will scarcely be found on earth (Lk. XVIII, 8), and that it will have been given to the forces of evil to defeat the Saints (Apoc. XIII, 7). These are two important quotes to bear in mind in 2014, because everything around us today tells us that the followers of Christ must be prepared for one seeming defeat after another, e.g. the fall of the Society of St Pius X. Here is what Cardinal Pie had to say on the matter, some 150 years ago:—

“Let us fight, hoping against hope itself, which is what I wish to tell faint-hearted Christians, slaves to popularity, worshippers of success and shaken by the least advance of evil. Given how they feel, please God they will be spared the agonies of the world’s final trial. Is that trial close or is it still far off? Nobody knows, and I will not dare to make a guess. But one thing is certain, namely that the closer we come to the end of the world, the more and more it is wicked and deceitful men who will gain the upper hand. The Faith will hardly be found on earth, meaning that it will almost have disappeared from earthly institutions. Believers themselves will hardly dare to profess their belief in public, or in society.

“The splitting, separating and divorcing of States from God which was for St Paul a sign foretelling the end, will advance day by day. The Church, while remaining always a visible society, will be reduced more and more to dimensions of the individual and the home. When she started out she said she was being shut in, and she called for more room to breathe, but as she approaches her end on earth, so she will have to fight a rearguard action every inch of the way, being surrounded and hemmed in on all sides. The more widely she spread out in previous ages, the greater the effort will now be made to cut her down to size. Finally the Church will undergo what looks like a veritable defeat, and the Beast will be given to make war on the Saints and to overwhelm them. The insolence of evil will be at its peak.”

These are prophetic words, coming truer by the day, not at all pleasant to admit, but anchored in Scripture. A wise Anglican Bishop (Butler) said in the 18th century, “Things are what they are. Their consequences will be what they will be. Why then should we seek to deceive ourselves?” Notice especially how the Cardinal foresees the impossibility of defending the Faith on any larger scale than just the home. Not everybody agrees that we have already reached that point in 2014. I might wish they were right, but I have yet to be persuaded that with disintegrated people one can make an integrated society. Contrast with us democratic citizens of today the Roman centurion in the Gospel who understood a chain of command and recognized naturally the authority of Our Lord (Mt. VIII, 5–18) – how Our Lord praised him!

Patience. See next week how the Cardinal himself reacted to what he foresaw. He was no defeatist!

    Kyrie eleison.

My comments + Scripture citations in blue:

Cardinal Pie (1815–1880) was a great churchman of 19th century France, one of the great defenders of the Faith against that liberalism which was eating up the world from the French Revolution (1789) onwards.

Pope Pius X kept his works by his bedside and read them constantly.

No doubt the Cardinal’s profound grasp of the key ideas driving the modern world played a major part in enabling Pius X to obtain a 50-year reprieve, say from 1907 to 1958, for the doomed Catholic Church.

How did Pope St. Pius X obtain a 50-year reprieve?

    ~  Lamentabili Sane (1907)
    ~  Pascendi domenici gregis (1907)
    ~  Sacrorum Antistitum (1910)

While the words were strong, they were given a full set of teeth, for St. Pius X endeavored to enforce these great docuмents tooth and nail.  He left no stone unturned.  We can hardly imagine the carnage if he had not done so!  This son of Polish immigrants was the pastor par excellans. We live today in an age still blessed by his towering wisdom and principled fortitude.

XIII, 7).

Matt. xxviii. 20:  "Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world."

"The Saints" would include Pope St. Pius X!

Lk.xviii. 7-8:  "And will not God revenge his elect who cry to him day and night: and will he have patience in their regard? 8I say to you, that he will quickly revenge them. But yet the Son of man, when he cometh, shall he find, think you, faith on earth?

Apoc. xiii. 7:  "And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them. And power was given him over every tribe, and people, and tongue, and nation."

“The splitting, separating and divorcing of States from God which was for St Paul a sign foretelling the end, [citation needed!] will advance day by day. The Church, while remaining always a visible society, will be reduced more and more to dimensions of the individual and the home.

Therefore, +W enjoins us:  Watch!  Prepare!  Fortify your homes!  "Watch and pray, watch and pray;  15 Mysteries (Rosary) every day! (in other speeches, writings).

“When she started out she said she was being shut in, and she called for more room to breathe, but as she approaches her end on earth, so she will have to fight a rearguard action every inch of the way, being surrounded and hemmed in on all sides. The more widely she spread out in previous ages, the greater the effort will now be made to cut her down to size. Finally the Church will undergo what looks like a veritable defeat, and the Beast will be given to make war on the Saints and to overwhelm them. The insolence of evil will be at its peak.”

Recall that St. Pius X mused that perhaps the son of perdition (the Antichrist) may well have already been born at that time, 100 years ago.  There is no small anticipation that the Antichrist might be a man whose body doesn't age like the rest of us -- for which "The Picture of Dorian Gray" was an analogy.

These are prophetic words, coming truer by the day, not at all pleasant to admit, but anchored in Scripture. A wise Anglican Bishop (Butler) said in the 18th century, “Things are what they are. Contrast with us democratic citizens of today the Roman centurion in the Gospel who understood a chain of command and recognized naturally the authority of Our Lord (Mt. Patience. See next week how the Cardinal himself reacted to what he foresaw. He was no defeatist!

    Kyrie eleison.

    Mt. viii. 5-18:
5And when he had entered into Capharnaum, there came to him a centurion, beseeching him, 6And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, and is grieviously tormented. 7And Jesus saith to him: I will come and heal him. 8And the centurion making answer, said: Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof: but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed. 9For I also am a man subject to authority, having under me soldiers; and I say to this, Go, and he goeth, and to another, Come, and he cometh, and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. 10And Jesus hearing this, marvelled; and said to them that followed him: Amen I say to you, I have not found so great faith in Israel. 11And I say to you that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven: 12But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 13And Jesus said to the centurion: Go, and as thou hast believed, so be it done to thee. And the servant was healed at the same hour.

14And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother lying, and sick of a fever: 15And he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she arose and ministered to them. 16And when evening was come, they brought to him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word: and all that were sick he healed: 17That it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the prophet Isaias, saying: He took our infirmities, and bore our diseases.

18And Jesus seeing great multitudes about him, gave orders to pass over the water.

The Cost of Following Jesus -- (Luke 9:57-62; Luke 14:25-33; John 6:60-65)

We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...

  • Has anyone learned more regarding the April 25th open letter of Fray Juan de Jesus O.M.Carm. to Bishop Williamson?

It seemed pretty important/urgent at the time.

Has it only been two weeks?  It seems like at least a month or more that he has not mentioned it.  I never said I want him too either given it's usually anti-SV.  I'm wondering whether he is purposefully holding back on the anti-SV rhetoric.

You mean the one where he questions the character of a trailblazing traditionalist priest ordained by Archbishop Lefebvre and reveals his true alliance to the Masonic Tecos.

Anybody who knows about the Tecos wouldve dismissed that letter immediately. You can't attack the character pf a priest and in the same letter show support for masonic organizations. Complete bafoonery.

It would seem that Father Sergio Ruiz Vallejo was indeed a trailblazing traditionalist priest ordained by Archbishop Lefebvre, but I don't see any alliance to "Tecos".

Please elaborate or retract your statement before you attack the character of a good Priest.

Or perhaps this "trailblazing" priest that most people have never even heard of was not regarded as suitable for Cath Info and the post was deleted by the moderator, assuming principally for reason of calumny.

So if the post was deleted by the moderator, then I have no interest in discussing it here any longer, and probably it shouldn't have been brought up on a non-related thread.

A person never needs to apologize for defending a holy priest. I have met the priest he slandered and know the story behind the 1989 Masonic infiltration of the Argentinian seminary. I cannot do your research for you.

Let's just leave it with that.

    Thanks.

  • Bp. W has spoken of masonic power in the Argentine. And having a 'local pope' may have finished off the seminary for all time. We have seen this effect with Ratzinger and the German district.

  • Well, judging by y'all's comments  you want to know, and you've brought it up again even though it has been mentioned several times and discussed here on Catholic info.

Frankly, I'm nauseas from repeating things like this so let's try to make this the last time.

In the late 80's a significant number of people tried to foist the La Reja seminary. I don't know a lot about it and doubt there are many links. The Mexican group associated with the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara called the Tecos were responsible. They took many seminarians and I think a few professors (not sure maybe some higher ups) with them.

You have to understand a little bit about the Tecos. They were formed as a reaction to the cristero war. They are de facto Sede vacantists and reject the papacy not because of Vatican 2 but because lack of support from the Vatican for the Cristeros, when they were basically asked to put down their weapons and then slaughtered.

The Tecos ever since have been controlled by Masonry and it is very well known. The Tecos are the type that if you say that you are a Traditionalist they say they are a traditionalist and point you towards the traditionalist churches. If you say you are a Novus Ordo than they too are and point you towards the modernist churches. There are very few links simply because some people are shaken up about talking about them. They have been implicated in narcotraficante as well I am told.

The group that left the seminary and took many seminarians with them joined up with a sede vacantist seminary in Europe. One of the former seminarians was also consecrated a Thuc line bishop and now tends to the Tecos in Guadalajara. Ever since there have been problems with them and the Society.

It is claimed that the mother of the District Superior of Mexico has stated that her son is good friends with the Tecos. He had apparently received a large donation from them and such a donation this large Menzingen would have had to question who the benefactor was it is presumed. Also before a surgery, supposedly, the District Superior was received by the Tecos for whatever reason. This information was passed to me from a priest who is well-informed and in a position to know these things.

Interestingly, the priest who organized the incident in Argentina in the Cathedral was suspect of being a Teco, though he was given a position in La Reja despite being warned. It is suspected that this event was intended to agitate the authorities and provoke visa problems for the Seminary.

So when the priest who wrote the letter was speaking out against the priest who were trying to combat this infiltration and specifically refers to the La Reja incident as to be in favor of the Tecos, than anyone would immediately dismiss this, which is exactly why in the Spanish blogosphere his letter is not being circulated and receives no attention. Perhaps he was trying to take advantage of the fact that the English speaking world knows very little about this.

Like I said, this info was communicated to me and if anyone feels the need to correct anything I stated here be my guest. I believe it all to be correct or accurately explained.
We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...
