  • First, as St Augustine observes, The prophets spoke more plainly and openly of the church than of Christ, foreseeing that on this a much greater number may err and be deceived than on the mystery of the Incarnation. For in after ages there would not be wanting wicked men who, like an ape would fain to pass for a man, would claim that THEY ALONE WERE CATHOLICS, AND WITH NO LESS IMPIETY THAN EFFRONTERY ASSERT THAT WITH THEM ALONE IS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

    Trent!

    Does this sound like Johannes?

    Oldyank,

I should ask....since I'm not now sure that I'm understanding the above quote properly. Is the quote from Trent, and was Trent quoting St. Augustine? It seems to be saying that it is both impious and an effrontery for men to claim that they alone are Catholics and that with them alone is the Catholic Church. That would make sense.

What the above quote also seems to be saying is that a greater number would be deceived and err regarding the Church, rather than on the subject of the incarnation. That does seem to be the case, on both of the extreme sides of the issue. Though I don't consider SV to always be extreme, more often than not the SV's here aren't extreme, but Johannes' opinion seems to be.

"It is licit to resist a Sovereign Pontiff who is trying to destroy the Church. I say it is licit to resist him in not following his orders and in preventing the execution of his will. It is not licit to Judge him, to punish him, or to depose him, for these are acts proper to a superior."

    ~St. Robert Bellarmine

  • If a non-catholic can be saved, or
if a non-catholic can become catholic, simply by desire, then…

    Why can’t a non-catholic be pope?

Why can’t a non-catholic be pope, simply by desire?

How can membership/salvation have such subjective and fluid rules….yet the papacy have such stict and precise rules?  It makes no sense.

Either the understanding of membership/salvation is WAY too lukewarm and needs to be more precise and strict, or…

The understanding of the papacy needs to be more subjective and fluid.

You can’t have it both ways.

  • can anyone confirm this? Padre Pio said " In a short while, The pope will be in complete control of the devil and he will rule a false church.  I thought I read this somewhere.

I used to serve Mass for a WWII era, TLM priest from Genoa who complained that many false quotes were attributed to Holy Padre Pio.

But there is one quote, certainly docuмented in 1959 by Father Luigi Villa, who was asked told by Padre Pio to form a clandestine network to spy on ecclesiastical masonry.

In that meeting, Padre Pio explained that ecclesiastical masonry had already reached the slippers of the Pope.

Later, Father Villa’s secret apostolate would determine that Roncali, the usurper to the Seat of the 1958 papal conclave was both a pedophile and a Freemason.

"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

  • I think the freemason "rumour" was docuмented in some book as true with photographic evidence... he was seen entering in civvies (trenchcoat and hat) I think in Budapest!!!

It may be conjecture but I do have a good memory.
