She lives in a very modest home. I'm sure that St. Bernadette's family could have been similarly attacked for the dungeon in which they lived due to poverty. Nor do we know why there's not a statue of Our Lady up front. Google Street View pictures can be several years dated.
Shame on you.
In the house I currently have, until a few weeks ago, it too had a "dish" on top. Hadn't been used for years, but no one bothered to take it down. I finally asked the roofers to remove it when I had to have the roof replaced. Nor do I have a Catholic statue in front of my house; that's because I've been rather broke lately (with the expense of replacing the roof) and haven't had five cents to spare from week to week in order to buy one. But I guess that my "dish" and lack of a statue would have rendered me a non-Catholic also. I literally have about 48 cents to spare in my bank account this week.
I agree -- the look of the house says nothing.
1. She might not be living completely on her own, or have control of what house she lives in.
2. Poverty is not something to be ashamed of.
3. A dish on one's house doesn't mean they are paying $20-$80 a month for satellite TV service. The dish could be there from a former owner. Like Ladislaus, I used to have a dish on my house that was installed by the former owners. I really didn't like it, because it made it look like I was paying for TV channels. I finally got someone to remove it; I sold it for scrap metal.
4. Ditto for the lack of statue. I have lots of Catholic decor in my house, but the largest statue I have is about 15" tall, and that stays on our mantle above the fireplace. We haven't got around to affording (then finding) a good outdoor statue. But we've wanted one for a long time. We did buy a nice display size Sacred Heart picture when we first moved here, when we still "had money".
The more I think about it, the more ridiculous that post seems. How does posting a typical humble American dwelling say ANYTHING AT ALL pro or con about the validity of some alleged apparitions?
Most people have no problem with Our Lady appearing to poor shepherd children. But if she appeared to poor Americans it would seem "wrong" somehow. I know this phenomenon exists, because I feel that in myself! I know intellectually it's wrong, but I have the FEELINGS nevertheless.
Poor Bernadette? Fine.
Poor shepherd children at Fatima? Fine.
Other poor pre-20th century seers? Fine.
Poor modern-day American on welfare with a beat-up car? Whoah, Nellie! Our Lady wouldn't appear to a lowly
deadbeat!
But
why not, exactly?
Just like many people have a romantic notion about Crucifixion because Our Lord submitted to this particular torture/punishment. It has less horror for us for this reason. But what if Our Lord submitted to modern torture, and was finally killed with the electric chair or lethal injection? Crucifixion was a horrible, hated form of capital punishment that Roman citizens could never be sentenced to. It was reserved for lowly criminals.
I'm not saying I believe in these apparitions, but I have to point this out...for the sake of Truth, if nothing else.
