David Allen White – An Ingenious Catholic Gentleman, RIP

David Allen White – An Ingenious Catholic Gentleman, RIP

Dr. David Allen White passed away today after a long and courageous battle with a number of health ailments. I have known “Doc” White for a couple of decades, long enough to know that the Traditional Catholic movement has lost a champion that will not soon be replaced. Along with his impressive body of work known to so many all around the world, Doc also wrote for The Remnant newspaper from time to time, traveled with Remnant Tours on occasion, spoke at Remnant conferences, but most of all was a friend and a truly exemplary Catholic gentleman.

We will have much to say about this great man in the pages of The Remnant in the days to come. But having just heard the news of his death, I hasten to beg Remnant readers to pray for the repose of his soul. Doc White would be furious at me or anyone else who would dare waste time eulogizing him while what he wants more than anything else right now is for his friends to beg heaven for God’s mercy on behalf of his soul. And so that is what we will do.

I leave you with an urgent prayer for that intention, and also with a humorous cartoon that for me encapsulates my fondest memories of Doc White. It is a homage, really, sketched by his dear friend, Tom Brannon, and published in The Remnant many years ago. If you were fortunate to have known Doc personally then you will readily understand the apt reference to Miguel de Cervantes’s Don Quixote. Like the Man for La Mancha, Doc White never quite fit in with the modern world. He was too rooted in the old ways, I guess, the old Faith, and the old world. He stood as a walking, talking rebuke of modernity, in fact, which is why He will be so greatly missed.

Well done, Doc. You fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. May the crown of righteousness be yours in our Lord’s good time.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine up him. May his soul through the mercy of God rest in peace.Doc white cartoon

For those who didn't know him:

So, I saw that this was a year ago, and he did already look to be in pretty rough shape ... where you could tell he was struggling a bit mentally and physically.

I guess he was about, what?, 75-76, when he passed away, so he would have been 74-75 here, and yet look to be struggling with some type of ailment here already in this video.
