  • Here is my latest summary of the Traditional Movement, and our chapel's mission in particular. Once again, I had someone writing in looking for the "Latin Mass" and this particular man was looking for FSSP chapels. Interesting he ended up at my humble wordpress website rather than, oh I don't know, the FSSP's own website?

Here was my response. I think it's a good summary of what the Traditional Movement is all about.

St. Dominic's is your basic "Traditional Chapel" set up as a lifeboat of sorts, where Catholics can attend the Tridentine Mass (and receive the other sacraments) from priests who were properly formed (St. Thomas Aquinas philosophy and theology, etc.) and whose ordination validity is beyond reproach. Chapels like ours have sprung up around the country since Day 1 when Vatican II and the New Mass happened in 1969. Just the latest in a long line of chapels in the "Traditional Movement". My own parents were married at an independent chapel in 1975.

We believe that Truth comes even above authority, when the two are in conflict. We don't enjoy the Crisis in the Church (we didn't create it) but we believe God calls us to save our souls, just as God has called souls to sanctity and salvation in every other era.

We believe that God doesn't change, and the Faith doesn't change. It doesn't need to be "updated" to accommodate the Modern World, which was the central purpose of Vatican II (once that council was hijacked by the Freemasons, that is).

We believe that Catholics don't need permission -- no, not even from the Pope -- to keep the Catholic Faith and save our souls. In fact, it's a command and an obligation from God to do so. The proof that we have something to resist can be found in the sorry state of the post-Vatican II
Catholic Church -- so many Catholics ignorant of their faith, Catholic morality, using birth control, and practicing indifferentism ("any faith will save you"). Most of the Catholics who "stayed" after Vatican II have since lost their Faith, or at least absorbed countless heresies about Purgatory, the Mass, the Blessed Virgin, Intercession of Saints, etc. It's a long topic.

No, there is no FSSP in the San Antonio area. There are not a lot of options for the Tridentine Mass in this area -- whether Indult/approved by Rome or "Traditional Catholic". It's a real desert around here.
