If they are not priests there is no consecration, even if they do a perfect Tridentine mass. The main reason we have doubts about the consecration is that we have doubts whether the new ordination rite creates priests, and also whether the new formula for the consecration of bishops creates a bishop. Without a bishop there are no ordinations PERIOD, and without the proper ordination rite, there are no priests, and without priests there is no consecration of the host. Add to all of that what you are discussing about the Novus Ordo mass and you have the reason why I do not go to the Novus Ordo, all of the odds are against it being a real mass.
On Tuesday, I attended a very brief 15 minute English vernacular Novus Ordo funeral mass for one of my friends at the San Fernando Mission in Mission Hills, California.
The Mass started 15 minutes late and then included the ceremony of draping the casket with a white cloth called a
pall, signifying the baptismal gown, followed by the procession of the coffin into the mortuary chapel, next came the Mass itself. After the short mass, ceremonies included the removing of the pall after the coffin was blessed with water and then with incense, followed by the procession from the Nave into the Narthex of the chapel. Finally, there were greetings by the guests, friends, and relatives in the Narthex as they waited for the Hearst.
No songs or hymns were sung. There was no tabernacle in the little chapel.
I did not go up to receive communion offered in the hand or the blessing offered by the priest. I was too numb.
Lord have mercy on us and save us.
