I remember reading something written by Fr. Basilio Meramo who publicly opposed Summorum Pontificuм immediately after its release in 2007 and in 2009 again publicly opposed the "talks with Rome" which was the final straw that had him expelled by +Fellay.
Fr. Meramo said that he was present at the meeting where ABL named the four bishops to be consecrated and that initially, Fr. Fellay was against his nomination so Fr. Schmidberger took him behind closed doors for about 45(?) minutes. When they came out, Fr. Fellay accepted. Perhaps another priest or +W would confirm this account.
When I read it, I was under the impression the Fr. Schmidberger was a hard core traditionalist. Now, knowing he's not, I don't wonder anymore about what must have taken place behind close doors. We know +Fellay came to the seminary straight from the Novus Ordo and who requested his consecration. It all makes sense to me now.
