I see a 20 page thread on Sedevacantism coming.
So to those of you tempted -- don't even think about it! ;)
You can start however many threads in the Crisis subforum you want.
Then why did you bump the thread? disclaimer: I didn’t downvote your post.

It's not just the belief that the Chair is empty. It always includes the belief that the institutional Church has failed as well (structure, authority, Cardinals, bishops worldwide, etc.)

Please(!!!) correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Bishop Williamson state that as time goes on, there is less and less of a chance that the NO sacraments are confected, due to the fact that there is less and less of a possibility of a valid Episcopacy and valid ordinations due to the dying off of traditionally consecrated Bishops and priests. ( as well as lack of proper intention due to poor priestly formation).
Not trying to put words in the good Bishop's mouth but I thought that's what he said.

But then again, I would expect a book that thoroughly trashes Sedevacantism to make a sedevacantist mad.

Well, that's overstating it a bit.  Father Chazal admits that Bergoglio is in fact a pertinacious manifest heretic.  Once that has been conceded, then one is entitled to hold the opinion of Bellarmine that Bergoglio is no longer pope.  He does make a valid point that the sedevacantists ignore the contrary opinions regarding what happens to a heretical pope, but at the end of the day it becomes one opinion vs. another ... and Bellarmine's position does seem to be the one that has won out (Siscoe & Salza's distortion thereof notwithstanding) ... and seems the most probable.

What Father Chazal is REALLY arguing against isn't sedevacantism per se, but DOGMATIC sedevacantism.  In that case, I agree with you that it tends towards home-aloneism.  There's one branch of dogmatic sedevacantism in particular that denounces as heretics anyone who remains "in communion" with heretics.  So heresy then spreads like a veritable contagion ... to the point that the home-aloneists consider themselves one of about 15-20 actual Catholics left in the world.

Sedevacantism is schismatic.

I also knew it'd grow, with members radicalizing as time progressed.  Hence, new strains of dogmatic sedes.  It's mostly an online movement for now.  Real people in meatspace, meanwhile, meet each other in actual communities of human beings at Catholic parishes.

No, I don’t think he said this.
