To take the idea one step further...
What does Rome (and the Neo-SSPX) want from Bishop Williamson?
For him to go away, fade away -- in short, to be quiet and die.
Up till now, he EFFECTIVELY has been given them exactly what they want. He has a weekly blog post, and he's still alive -- but he hasn't been doing much to "embarrass" the Neo-SSPX, or drive a wedge between them and Rome, by consecrating bishop(s) for example.
What I mean is -- the average SSPX "man in the pews" isn't subscribed to Eleison Comments, so for them, +W has ceased to exist.
Right now we see +Fellay trying to keep a foot in both camps -- the Traditional Catholic and the Conciliar Church. So anything that highlights the incompatibility of them will start to pull those two feet of +Fellay further and further apart until he looks like Jean-Claude Van Damme (in every single Van Damme movie, he always finds an excuse to show off his ability to do the "splits")
Consecrating a new Bishop for Tradition -- that might be the thing most calculated to highlight the differences between the Trad in the Pews (who believes in Tradition, its right to exist, the need for resistance to Modernism) and Rome.
Indeed, how can Bishop Fellay (and company) keep both sides happy now? If they condemn the consecration (which they are doing), how can they avoid the charge of hypocrisy, if not schism?
