  • There was talk here on CI about this trip.  Here is the sermon.  The first 27 minutes is the sermon, and the rest is an update on the relationship with rome.  There are also some interesting stories about francis.  Francis is reported to have said "I will never hurt the society".  And, francis as bishop of argentina reportedly said to an sspx priest - "if you want your children to lose the faith, send them to my schools"(with the point being, don't send your children to my schools).

    Here is the sermon -

  • Bishop Fellay, and dare I say far too many Traditional Catholics, have such an anthropomorphic understanding of God.  It is astounding and wrong.

CORRECTION 2 - The name is BISHOP Fellay. Bp. Fellay was consecrated a valid Bishop just like Bp. Williamson and the others.

Are you one of the TRADITIO Fathers?

Don't get too concerned about subject lines. Many people put "+Fellay" to save space not knowing that the software will drop the "+".

    Agreed.

Lamb, how about you get concerned when people refer to him incorrectly in the TEXT of a post.

You'll find we don't have anyone on CI that considers +Fellay to be a simple priest or a layman. It would be kind of ridiculous, since he was consecrated at the same ceremony as +Williamson.

As you point out, this isn't Traditio. People of that mindset tend to get banned from here.

The software strips out most punctuation from topic titles.

Oh, and in case you have an objection to the abbreviation "+Fellay", that was the common shorthand way to refer to a bishop at the Winona, MN Seminary during my time there. The whiteboard outside the refectory only had so much space.

  • I think I put "+"Fellay as the title.  Perhaps matthew corrected it for me.

As for the sspx crisis, I think that the crux of this matter is nfp.  If the sspx teaches nfp, then I think the devil will give them their conditions("remain as we are with the right to criticize and reject the novelties/errors of the council").  It might lower sspx numbers, but it will install a new gatekeeper.

    .

It would seem that after the platform software automatically deleted your "+" (which it does for everyone's new threads, not just yours), then Matthew or his lovely wife fixed your title by adding "Bp" in its place.

(If it's not too much trouble, perhaps he/she could repair "Acradia" as well?)

Maybe I'm a bit slow, but I don't know what you mean by "a new gatekeeper."  Would you mind explaining that?

  • I want to alter my last post about nfp/rythm.  It is the crux of the matter.  But, if the sspx offically accepts and practices it, the sspx will become entirely novus ordo.  And, the NO church will in effect not change.  They will just become equals with the fssp.

  • Neil - In dante divine comedy.  There is a little hill that is lighted with the light of the sun in the midst of a dark forest.  Dante(who in the story is in the state of grace) seeks to ascend the hill in order to escape the darkness of the woods/wilderness he finds himself in.  But, he cannot ascend this little hill.  This little hill is guarded by three creatures(the creatures of worldliness).  The creatures are the lion, the leopard, and the she-wolf.

And, this is relevant.  Christ spoke of wolves infiltrating; and he spoke of dogs eating crumbs.

Didn't the SSPX always teach NFP? I thought they did, but I don't know because I never heard it mentioned in a sermon and I never went to them for marriage counseling. I heard a sermon by Father Chazal where he condemned NFP and said one of the problems with the CMRI was that they promoted NFP, but I do not know the general teaching of the SSPX on this matter.

  • Matto - I think you watched the same fr. chazal nfp conference that I did.  And, from what I understand, humanae vitae was the last stop in terms of nfp.  When looked at, the church has gone through stages with this.  First, it was a subject that required clerical permission you could say(left to the confessional to deal with onanism).  Then, Pius XII informed the public that there were four conditions allowing its use(this in essence removes clerical permission).  Then, Paul VI in humanae vitae(from what I recall) gave approval and did away with if not officially reversed the ordered ends of marriage.(no restriction/no sin).  The sin that once was(read casti conubii - refers to reversing the ordered ends of marriage as a "grave sin" - Fr. Jenkins on wcb inferred that it was dogmatic) is now no longer with humanae vitae.  And, Fr. Chazal may have considered it the last acceptable encyclical for a while, but that does not mean the sspx officially and as a whole did.
