You are exactly right, the concept of resistance was only meant to be a temporary reaction, as facts could be gathered and the appropriate theology could be researched.

Resistance was never meant to be a system or an explanation for the crisis. Those that are trying to make it into a system, can only do such by denying the teachings of the Church.

Arguably Fellay is more honorable in his conduct than Williamson because he is trying to rid himself of the internal contradiction by submitting to the yoke of the heretics he "recognizes." He is coming around to - at least - logical consistency. Whereas Williamson marinades in internal contradiction like a disco denizen in bad aftershave.
