Fascinating. I truly believe that the Archbishop will be canonized during the Sixth Age of the Church.
What I find especially notable is how he highlighted the importance of how subtle this will be:
It's appalling, we can't imagine what we're going towards now, towards a socialization that, apparently for us, doesn't seem as hard as that of communism, but in the end, it's going to be just an image of communism, but realized by scientific means instead of being realized by force, as the communists did, it will be the same thing.
This is what will make this form of communism even worse than the previous forms. Soft tyranny is always worse than tyranny by force, since tyranny by force makes it difficult to seduce people into believing what the regime wants them to believe.
If I had to guess, this is because the regime in a hard tyranny system can't really sell the illusion of wanting to protect its people, since it uses physical violence and/or imprisonment as the main means of social coercion. In a soft tyranny system, the dissidents are not outright punished in a physical way; rather, they are villainized by the media while the compliant are told how "good" they are for following the rules. A soft tyranny government wants to appear benevolent to its people so that the people will sincerely trust them and consider them their protector, whereas a hard tyranny government wants to simply maintain their grip on power and scare the population into submission through direct violence. I think we are undergoing a transition between a soft tyranny system to a hard tyranny system.
In various ways, our Western governments have been Marxist/Communist for some time now, which should not be a surprise since Western Marxism (Gramsci) was always more subtle than its Eastern counterparts in China and Russia. One only needs to look at China or Vietnam today to see that a "Command Economy" is not necessary for a Communist government to exist, but a lot of people have been duped into the idea that is precisely what a Communist government requires. However, as the Archbishop stated, this new technocratic Communism will effectively be the same as the old Communism.
Too many people put their trust in "science", in the government, the media...pretty much EVERYTHING except God, and so they fall for the incremental implementation of this tyranny that we lament day by day.
