The possibility that +Fellay is being blackmailed in certainly not out of the question. My friends and I have discussed this question a number of times since 2009.
To be blackmailed, wouldn't he have something to hide?
If he was a "true" fighter for the Faith and was a "true" humble leader (i.e Saints), wouldn't he have God on his side while not worrying about any blackmailing?
John 15:20
Remember my word that I said to you: The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also. Even if it meant giving up his very own life for the Faith, wouldn't his reward be much greater in Heaven (i.e. the martyr's)?
John 15:13
Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
