  • Let's compare this recent move by the KY seminary rectors to advice +Williamson gave to Fr. chazal when he was receiving his first seminarians.  +Williamson told fr. chazal to teach them church history, the encyclicals, and the councils(and perhaps one more that I cannot remember).  But, he said and I quote "but do not teach them spirituality, do not get inside their heads".  When I read that, I thought that was great advice.  I mean, lets be real here, +Williamson is a bishop and ran multiple seminaries in his life.  But, sadly, it appears that KY may be doing the opposite.

I Still need to watch the video but forbidding the seminarians from speaking to the faithful makes sense. They know too much!

This is a huge red flag.

As you know, I was a seminarian in Winona for over 3 years. There was no such prohibition at the SSPX seminary. We were human beings. We could make phone calls home (we had to share the (2) phone lines with our fellow seminarians though...there was a 15 minute limit per day I think). This was before cell phones.

And we certainly could talk with whoever we wanted to during vacations.

Now there IS a general rule of silence, and on Sunday morning there weren't any recreation periods. So that would be the only thing stopping us from talking to them. But they could have taken any of us aside and asked us a question, and then we could have (and would have) responded -- maybe they could give us their phone number, and we could call them that afternoon or evening during recreation.

Just knowing the situation there, this prohibition on speaking to the laity looks really bad.

This all smells like enchiladas to me.

  • We certainly were not taught spirituality in the seminary. But the problem with the classes was that we never seem to finish any course. we spent a great deal of time studying but we never reached the conclusion , and thus, wasted our efforts.

  • Paul fhc - thanks for clarifying, and giving the particular grievance.  But, what about the second part?  It seems pablo has been getting inside KY heads, and that affects the seminary.

This corroborates a thought I had that this part of the resistance suffers from a certain "activism" (a particularly American phenomenon).

They are setting up Mass centres everywhere, going, going, going, but never studying in-depth issues of the Faith.

Rehashing the same old arguments, resisting but never offering a real vision of what we must do. It seems that Boston is intellectually sterile. Far be it from me to state that they must be intellectuals but what type of seminary are you really going to run when you are never even there to FORM minds to love truth and to apply truth to concrete situations? The faith must be informed - doctrine AND piety, never one without the other.

The problem with Fr. Pfeiffer is that he may possess great zeal but unfortunately he is not really building anything. His God-given gifts are not for organizing. He is not responsible to anyone and as is that case with many (not all) priests in the traditional movement (if you will) is that once they break from an organization or some type of authority figure they often develop strange notions since there is no one to rein them in when needed.

The sad thing is that many people have developed blinders (the passions really do blind) and simply cannot see the chaos that is emanating from Boston. Souls are at stake. Are people really willing to sink or swim with Boston, come what may?

  • It seems to be the MO of the KY group, lack of consistency.  When they started offering Mass in this area we requested multiple times to have a consistent schedule... I.e. first Sunday of every other month, or every ninth Sunday etc but we were always told "no".  Often times we'd get a call one or two nights in advance or even as little as 12 hours notice.  Hard to build a loyal following with such a sporadic and inconsistent schedule.

Consistency builds trust.  Trust builds relationships.  The KYpriests never quite got that. Eventually, what ever spark was here fizzled out.  I'm guessing the flame that was burning at OLMC is starting to smolder.

This is one of the reasons that Fr. Voigt has operated somewhat independently for a long time now. When he was coming here, we always knew his schedule weeks beforehand. He purchased his own plane tickets so that he could do so in advance and give sufficient notice of Mass schedules.
