  • What is the position of the SSPX now in relation to ‘Motu Proprio Masses’? For years they stated clearly never attend. Is this still the position of the Society? Will Fr Morgan for example still get up and state not to attend the Indult?

I was speaking to a man about the Mass recently. His position is once the hosts from Novus Ordo are not used, he would go to any Mass. SSPX,Indult, Diocesan.

I realise many in Ireland and everywhere dip in and out of both Indult and SSPX but this causes problems.

    It's not resisting.

  • Whilst not representative of the SSPX, I thought it spoke volumes when you tell people Bishop Williamson was 'expelled'. The one chosen by God and the Archbishop, and in return people tell you, I was at Mass via Institute Christ the King in the very same week.

Then a few months later they had cheek to call me a 'rebel' yet knew nothing about the German Carmel, the priests in France, The Recusant.

When His Lordship was expelled they were caught in the camp of the enemy.

  • Since the SSPX is sinking, if not already, to the level of the Indult, the SSPX leadership should have no problem with you attending an Indult Mass.

To be fair to the SSPX in Ireland there has never been any condemnation in attending the Indult. What has united both is the pro-life movement.

Whilst many, mainly older generation are exclusively SSPX, many younger folk are a bit of both. Indult and SSPX. The Latin Mass is the main thing.

The sectarianism gets people nowhere. When SSPX youth appeared on EWTN and organised World Youth Day, I realised the SSPX in Ireland had changed.

For me it's revealing when people are delighted to appear with Cardinal Pell (a great pro-life hero) and 'Father' Stan Fortuna, who raps the gospel and yet seem embarrassed to share a stage with Bishop Williamson.

The SSPX is no different to the Indult. It's quite amazing the likes of Fr Morgan still tells laity not to attend the Indult. He spoke of the sinking ship not being beyond repair. What move is he making to repair the ship or will he sell out the Archbishop?

  • I am not against people having friendships with Indult folk but the line must not be blurred.

For example I used to get a message on my mobile phone every week inviting me to an Indult Mass. I declined and told the person. Sorry, I don't attend the Indult. I don't get the invites anymore.

I still might go along and hold up a pro-life sign or join a picket but won't go to the Indult Mass or Novus Ordo.

It's their problem if offended by that.

Tut tut. Haven't these Bishops given scraps from the table to the Indult folk for decades?  Gestures of goodwill from the friends of the 'extraordinary form'. For example some Irish Bishops permit a 1st Thursday or 1st Friday 'extraordinary form'. Others allow an annual 'extraordinary form'. One or two have a monthly Sunday Mass (terms and conditions apply).

It was summed up for me recently when a girl told me the SSPX have lost the opportunity to come home under the papacy of Benedict XVI, a true friend of Tradition. It's not his fault his hands are tied. An opportunity missed on the part of the SSPX.

Fr Pfluger warned in Ireland of the SSPX not becoming like Lutherans. Cutting themselves off and should be grateful to have the Mass.

There is a difference for those who think the new rite of ordination and the new rite of consecration are invalid.

  • "Neo-SSPX favors the wealthy, marginalizes the poor?, Has anyone else experienced this?"

An interesting thread. Whilst many attending the SSPX in Ireland are quite well off, Matthew answered the thread well.

There is no doubt the Latin Mass Chaplaincy(Indult)  in Dublin favours the wealthy. Quite alot of Judges and barristers attend. Very few of the 'ordinary' people of Dublin. For many the Latin Mass belongs to the elite.

I wouldn't say the SSPX has shown favouritism to the wealthy. It hasn't been my experience.Though some in Ireland are pro-capitalist like in England.

It was said though that  Lord President and Lord Justice General of Scotland attended the SSPX in early days but opted for the Indult. Is this true?

At election time in Ireland, you get a few people looking for the vote at door of Indult.

I know a man, who attends both Indult and SSPX. He is assured the hosts are not from Novus Ordo so will attend any Mass.

  • The New SSPX Website provides the answer:

SSPX Position on Motu Proprio Masses

Bottom line:  Maybe someday, but not now.
