  • Dear Matthew,

I received today an update from Fr Chigbata, a Resistance priest from Nigeria, who is URGENTLY in need of eye surgery on both eyes due to cataracts.

Initially he was considering traveling abroad getting the surgery, but he managed to find a good Eye Clinic in his country, located in Lagos.

This solution makes the surgery much more affordable and less burdensome.

I appeal to all good souls who can help him to complete the amount necessary both for paying for the surgery, and for travel from his town and find accommodation in Lagos.

Here it’s his message, and below the info on how to send the money.
May God reward you for your help.

    Fr. Juan C. Ortiz

    ——-

Greetings of the day dear Fr.,

I went to " SKIPPER EYE CLINIC  " yesterday rather than ULTIMATE EYE CLINIC.
A friend of mine and  a priest of Archdiocese of Onitsha had his surgery in the SkIPPER clinic in January this year and confirmed their competence and efficiency.
He advised me to go there as the clinic seems to be among the best three EYE clinics in Lagos .
I met over 80 patients on the seats, waiting for their turns to see the doctor when I got there and people keep on trooping in the hospital every 3 minutes to consult with the doctors for their cases.
This is a confirmation that the clinic is currently ranked among the best three clinics in the city.

After a series of  tests  by the medical team, I was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. The medical team strongly recommended urgent surgery to restore my sight and prevent further delay and deterioration.

The estimated cost for the surgery is 7,100,000 naira (approximately  4,733 USD ) .
In addition, there is a miscellaneous budget of 2,000,000 Million naira (equivalent of 1,500 USD ) to cover travel expenses from Asaba, Delta State to Lagos, by air, local transportation for hospital appointments within the city , medications, accomodation and daily needs during bed rest and recovery.

I shall be scheduled for the surgery whenever the payment is completed.

Thank you, Fr, for the huge support, and may God keep blessing you continually

  • I looked into lens replacement surgery, as they have them now where the same lens works at different focal distances (near, medium, far).

Costs $12,000 though.  Insurance would help cover some of the cost IF you have cataracts (but you'd still have to pay extra for the premium lenses).

When was this?  My aunt had it when it first came out in the US. She paid out of pocket as insurance still considered it experimental.  It took quite awhile for her eyes to adjust and she ended up needing reading glasses anyway.

My sister had it, covered by insurance and she has no problems.

Of course, Nigeria may not be as advanced as the US. I know nothing about their medical system or if they even have one.

I am led to believe that the care at these eye clinics in Lagos, the major city, is very good. It is more 'hit and miss' in the regional areas. The amount required by Fr Chigbata is around AUD$10,000.00, a significant sum. We have received very little help from our appeals for the Nigerian Resistance in the past and it has been largely a few souls who have borne the burden of expenses. I hope this appeal arranged by Fr Ortiz will bear greater fruit and find some generous souls. Please give whatever you can. All the widows' mites add up.

For what it is or isn't worth, such an arrangement sounds a little sketchy.  I also hesitate to trust anyone who immediately advocates for surgery, as if there are not possible alternatives.

I have never paid up front for anything important like this.  I never would.

If I had $10,000, I would just send him one of these.... https://tzla.club/ ...

    ...or try a natural remedy...

While I don't have cataracts and have not used, nor do I endorse this product, I am convinced there are natural cures for any and all conditions.  If I did, in fact, have a serious eye issue, I would exhaust all of the natural possibilities before trusting any modern doc's advice.

I'm all for natural remedies when available. They too, however, can be very expensive, and not always of proven benefit. Is there any evidence for any of these natural measures curing cataracts? I've never heard of such. It's a real problem if you can't see because of advanced cataracts as Fr Chigbata is describing, and cataract surgery is one of the most common operations in the world and of proven benefit. Everyone I know who has had this surgery has had remarkable results. Obviously there is a complication rate, but by and large it is very low and the advantages far outweigh the risks.
