Seriously, man? [....] Erik wasn't chosen to play an "average Mexican fruit picker" or something. Erik's character (Ponch) is a glamorous, young Californian motorcycle-riding highway patrol officer.

About as "Californian" as U.S. Senator Bahbwa Boxah.

Quote from: Matthew (Nov 16, 2014, 5:53 pm, overreaching)
You give yourself away as a near-racist with this one [...].  The only similarity I see is the Mexican face (brown skin, black hair) and the glasses.  Do Mexicans all look alike to you [...] ?

That is a rather provocative challenge.  People who live in the continental U.S.A. west of the Sabine River really ought to avoid assuming that the, um, "multicultural" shortcomings of people in other places are focused on the same ethnic groups as those of the less "inclusive" of their own neighbors.

Quote from: Pete Vere (Nov 16, 2014, 6:22 pm)
[...] you do realize that Erik Estrada was a New Yorker?

Not only was Estrada born in East Harlem (New York City), but also as an ethnic Borinqueño.  For U.S. readers west of the Sabine River, that means he's not Mexican, nor from any other continental ethnic group from "South of the Border", but instead, he's a Puerto Rican
    •  !   His heritage might be best described by their modern in-your-face demonym "NuYoRican".

  • Isn't there someone or anyone on this forum who could ask Fr Hewko in person just what is going on with Pablo and Fr. Pfeiffer and post his response?

I'm expecting my 7th baby in February, and last year we went to Boston, KY for a Baptism.  Not this time though.  I'm not going anywhere NEAR that place with a 10 foot pole...I guess my husband will have to do it.  Iron rations, indeed!

Pablo is just scary!  I don' understand the toleration at all.

  • Your husband will baptise your baby?
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!
    Praised be Jesus ad Mary!

  • LAW 26: KEEP YOUR HANDS CLEAN

Even for the powerful, making mistakes is inevitable. So is the need to do unpleasant work. But the truly powerful never let their hands soiled by errors and malevolent deeds. They use others as scapegoats and cat’s-paws to keep their hands sparklingly clean.

    ........

Law 26 simply says that the powerful must maintain his immaculate appearance, an epitome of civility and competence. When he blunders, he manages to hide them and ensures another person is blamed then “sacrificed” – scapegoat: Ts’ao Ts’ao of China once used a chief of commissariat as scapegoat when he wrongly estimated rations for his army. When the powerful needs to do something unpleasant, he manipulates others to do it for him – cat’s-paw: Cleopatra of Egypt once used Julius Caesar and Marc Antony as cat’s-paws to squash her enemies. These two tools have other purposes.

    ........

Cat’s-paws. There will inevitably come a time when one will need to do something unfavorable; cat’s-paws are used. It saves appearances, like with Henry VIII. It also saves energy and effort when it’s used to do one’s bidding.

I am of the opinion that the Publicizing of the contact info of the resistance coordinators was merely a diversion from the issues addressed in the Open Letter to fr. Pfeiffer.
We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...

Who will do the baptismal exorcism on your baby?  Let's hope Pablo doesn't show up on your doorstep, holy water in hand.

    So he's the cook, huh...

I'm sure that he's not spitting in the food...
    #Sarcasm

And he thinks "Trads" are even worse than the devil.

I don't understand why it takes a $40,000 cook to replace Pablo.

Is he REALLY that good of a cook? They need a professional cook with 10 years' experience to replace him?

$40,000 is not entry level for a cook, at least outside of California. This seminary is in Kentucky is it not?  Boston is in the middle of nowhere. Cost of living (and consequently, wages) can't be very high there.

My point -- you could get an intern, volunteer, college student, or minimum wage employee to make whatever Pablo is cooking, I'm sure.

I have never heard any legends or rumors about Pablo's cooking ability. I'll admit, I could be wrong. But I'm guessing not. He's a pipefitter, not a cook.

I bet he keeps wanting to make "Devil's Food cake" for dessert.

Ha, ha!  If he did I think I'd hit him on the head with a frying pan.  I'm not letting that beast anywhere NEAR my children!

We'd have to wait on the exorcism part until we could get to a priest.

  • Pablo makes $0 cooking. No one who cooks here gets paid. There are already people cooking now. Pablo cooks seldom, now. And, to give credit where credit is due, Pablo actually is a pretty good cook.
