Title: And another one bites the dust…
Post by: StMichaelDefendUs on May 30, 2023, 03:31:52 PM
So, after 15 years, the Catholic Truth Scotland “apostolate” is closing its doors this coming July: Closure of the Catholic Truth blog (https://catholictruthscotland.com/2023/05/13/closure-of-the-catholic-truth-blog/)

Seems the editor has had a run in with her local SSPX prior: May 2023 issue (https://catholictruthscotland.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Catholic-Truth_Newsletter_2023-05.pdf) (page 6)

How many is that? Ignis Ardens, ABLF 1.0, ABLF 2.0, Angel Queen, Tradidi…

Sorry to see that Catholic Truth Scotland is closing.

I have to wonder where Editor is going to attend Mass now, since she's been banned from attending any SSPX chapels.

I read the article, and the whole story is absolutely bizarre. The SSPX priest gave a sermon or something in which he said people should attend the high Mass on Sunday because it gives more glory to God, and not just opt for the low Mass so they can get out of church faster.

I see nothing wrong with any of this so far.

But then this woman publicly attacks the priest for this in her newsletter because she is offended by this statement that people should attend high Mass since it gives more glory to God (??!), and this whole thing escalated until this woman was banned from attending SSPX parishes.

Seriously?

This woman sounds like a crank.

Well, she was offended by the idea that Catholics go to the low mass because it's shorter, and maybe some Catholics do go to the low mass for this reason, but at least, IMO, they are at Mass. That's the main thing. I think another SSPX priest said something to this effect too.

The thing is, she needs to choose her battles. She's criticized other things about the chapel in the past (in a public manner, I think), and the priest had had enough. I think that she has a combative personality (as do I), which can come in useful at times, but also has its drawbacks. I do believe that she has a strong Catholic faith.

When I have a choice between a Low Mass and a High, I personally gravitate toward the Low, because I prefer the silence ... EXCEPT when there's a good all-male Gregorian schola with good accoustics and UNACCOMPANIED by organ.  IMO, organs ruin Gregorian chant.  Gregorian chant when properly done is conducive to meditation and prayer, and it's amazing.  But the second there's organ accompaniment or there's no chant at all but something that kindof resembles chant melody, I'll take the Low Mass every time.  Alas, this describes 95% of all Traditional chapel "High" Masses.

Before Vatican II, many places in the US did not even sing the Gregorian propers. They sang very weird, truncated psalm-toned propers like the ones from Fr. Rossini. If you can sing in tune (and 99.999% of people can, very few are actually tone-deaf), you can sing from the Liber Usualis.

The ban is unfair.  It seems to me there is something else going on.

It seems Sspx is parting ways with certain people.  Everything done in phases.

Alas such characters are not as uncommon as you think. I've experienced my fair share of parishioners that have been rude to the priests, criticizing them over trivial things, and telling the priests to the effect of something like "I've been here longer than you have, Father!" In the end such characters either leave on their own or they leave when stricter priests took action.

Is it a sin to want to get out of church faster?  Sounds pharisaical.

Priests raping children, joo esh infiltration, unholy oils, teaching Darwinism, concelebrating marriages not a problem....fulfilling my Sunday obligation at a mass that the SSPX is actually offering....problem.

Let's hope that someone from the Dicastery of Divine Worship sees this post. Cardinal Roche has his hometown not all that far from Glasgow!
