  • Mt. 28:20 VS Lk. 18:8

Bishop Williamson has pitted these to biblical quotations against each other on at least three times now. The first he tried to explain away in his E.C. "Various Churches". This prompted a reply from Fr. Francois Laisney (http://archives.sspx.org/miscellaneous/various_churches_fr_laisney_12-21-2012.htm). So the question why out of the 300+ E.C.s did the Society decide to reply to this one? Because if you follow Bp. Williamson's logic you must conclude that the Church has defected (an Heretical thought by the way!).

There is a wonderful, laymans, explaination of this and an open letter to Bp. Willaimson (here: http://tradicat.blogspot.com/2014/05/open-letter-to-bishop-williamson.html). I can assure you all: Bp. Williamson will NEVER visit this quote again. If it were a boxing match Fr. Francois Laisney scored a knockout in under 5 seconds of round 1; Bp. Willaimson's reasonling is not Catholic. So now Bp. Williamson plays on Lk. 18:8.

Regarding Mt. 28:20: It is not necessary to quote at any length the Fathers where their testimony is so plain and so abundant Not for a brief period says St Augustine was the Church to exist on this earth but the Church will be here till the end of the world The Church shall not be conquered shall not be rooted up nor give way before any trials whatever till the end of this world shall come and out of this temporal dwelling place we be received into that eternal one (Enarr in Ps lx n 6). Unbelievers think he says elsewhere that the Christian religion will last for a certain period in the world and will then disappear But it will remain as long as the sun as long as the sun rises and sets that is as long as the ages of time shall roll the Church of God the true body of Christ on earth will not disappear (In Ps lxxi n 8) And again The Church will totter if its foundation shakes but how can Christ be moved Christ remaining immovable it the Church shall never be shaken Where are they that say that the Church has disappeared from the world when it cannot even be shaken (Enarr in Ps ciii serm ii n 5) Secede not from the Church says St. Chrysostom for nothing is stronger than the Church Thy hope is the Church thy salvation is the Church thy refuge is the Church It is higher than the heavens and wider than the earth It never grows old but is ever full of vigour Wherefore Holy Writ pointing to its strength and stability calls it a mountain Hom De Capto Eutropio n 6 Our Lord's words But yet the Son of Man when He shall He find think you faith on earth do not any direct statement but allude to the great revolt falling off airoaraaia which is to precede the last days (2 Thess ii 3). Still even then the false Christs and false shall not be able to deceive the elect (Matt 24).

But given Bp. Williamson comments on Lk. 18:8 one can't help drawing parallels with the letters of St. Augustine:

"You think that you make a very acute remark when you affirm the name Catholic to mean universal not in respect to the communion as embracing the whole world but in respect to the observance of all Divine precepts and of all the sacraments as if we even accepting the position that the Church is called Catholic because it honestly holds the whole truth of which fragments here and there are found in some heresies rested upon the testimony of this word's signification and not upon the promises of God and so many indisputable testimonies of the truth itself our demonstration of the existence of the Church of God in all nations In fact however this is the whole which you attempt to make us believe that the Eogatists alone remain worthy of the name Catholics on the ground of their observing all the Divine precepts and all the sacraments and that you are the only persons in whom the Son of man when He cometh shall find faith. ..."

"On account of this abounding iniquity which the Lord foretold it is said in another place "When the Son of man cometh shall He find faith on the earth?" This doubt expressed by Him who knoweth all things prefigured the doubts which in Him we entertain when the Church being often disappointed in many from whom much was expected but who have proved very different from what they were supposed to be is so alarmed in regard to her own members that she is slow to believe good of any one Nevertheless it would be wrong to cherish doubt that those whose faith He shall find on the earth are growing along with the tares throughout the whole field.

Therefore it is the same Church also which within the Lord's net is swimming along with the bad fishes but is in heart and in life separated from them and departs from them that she may be presented to her Lord "glorious Church not having spot or wrinkle". But the actual visible separation she looks for only on the sea shore e at the end of the world meanwhile correcting as many as she can and bearing with those whom she cannot correct but she does not abandon the unity of the good because of the wickedness of those whom she finds incorrigible.

Well, let us see what an English Anglican convert rasied to the Episcopate has to say on Lk18:8:

CARDINAL MANNING: REVOLT OF THE INTELLECT AGAINST GOD

"But yet the Son of Man when He cometh shall He find think you faith on earth"

By this question our Divine Lord intends us to understand that when He comes He shall find many who do not believe many who have fallen from the faith It foretells that there shall be apostasies and if apostasies therefore that He shall find the truth but He will find also those that have fallen from it this is what the Holy Ghost speaking by the Apostle has distinctly St Paul says Now the Spirit manifestly saith that in the times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to spirits of and doctrines of devils And again St John says Little children is the last hour and as you have heard that Antichrist cometh even there are become many Antichrists whereby we know that it is the hour The meaning therefore of our Lord is this not that when comes He will not find the Church He founded in all the plenitude its power and the faith He revealed in all the fulness of its doctrine The city seated upon the hill cannot be hid The Holy Catholic is the light of the world and so shall be to the end It can be separated from its Divine Head in heaven The Spirit of who came on the day of Pentecost according to our Divine promise will abide with it forever therefore when the Son of shall come at the end of the world there shall be His Church as in beginning in the amplitude of its Divine authority in the fulness of Divine faith and the immutability of its teaching He will find then light shining in vain in the midst of many who will be willingly the teacher in the midst of multitudes of whom many will be deaf they will have eyes and see not and ears and hear not hearts that will not understand As it was at His first coming so it be at His second This then is the plain meaning of our Lord's words."

For Bp. Williamson it is literally 'Game Over'. The devil has won. He wants to separate the wheat and chaff now, immedialety and with no delay. Each to his own. No Church, no hierachy, no obedience.

    This simply IS NOT CATHOLIC.
