A bit of a reminder....

Summary of the letter of the 3 Bishops to Bp. Fellay (2012):

1. After the discussions of 2009 to 2011, doctrinal agreement proved to be impossible with Rome.

2. 3 bishops formally opposed to any such agreement.

3. Official authorities have deviated from Catholic truth.

4. Archbishop Lefebvre stated that the combat of the SSPX is the same as the combat of the Popes against the liberal spirit of the modern world.

5. Emphasis on Bishop Tissier de Mallerais’ Faith Imperiled by Reason which analyzed Pope Benedict XVI’s subjectivist thought.

6. Conciliarist Rome would not tolerate the SSPX condemning Conciliar teachings.

7. Purely practical agreement would necessarily silence the SSPX’s critique of Vatican II or the New Mass.

8. Who will guarantee the SSPX is protected from the Roman Curia or the bishops?

9. Admittedly there are already symptoms of a lessening of the SSPX’s profession of the faith.

10. Archbishop Lefebvre was weary in 1989 of Rome’s seeming benevolence towards Tradition.

11. According to the Archbishop the SSPX must publicly oppose the errors spread by the Roman authorities.

12. Beware! A purely practical agreement will cause deep divisions within the SSPX.

13. Archbishop Lefebvre refused a purely practical agreement; the situation has not changed; the Archbishop was still right!

By this letter the three bishops of the FSSPX who do not form part of the General Council wish to let him know, with all due respect, of the unanimity of their formal opposition to any such agreement.

We know what happened to Bp. Williamson, but what of the other two? Why did they cave?
