  • How is everyone liking their new priest?

  • I’ve never had one and seriously doubt I ever will.
Clarification needed! I was reading through this thread and this sounds wrong!  What I meant was that I’ve never had a bonafide spiritual director because no priest has ever remained long enough in one place for that to be possible.  I have had good priests, in general, a few excellent, in fact.

It's been many years since I've had access to a solid spiritual director.  When you're a "mission" chapel especially, it's all the priest can do just to hear Confessions before moving along to the next place.  And, quite frankly, the newer neo-SSPX priests that I've run into have NOT been very good with direction nor even with pastoral care in general.  There were quite a few great ones with the SSPX "old guard".

Oh, I've noticed also that the solid priests from my generation are generally relegated to low-profile positions and as assistants.  They should be the heads of the various priories, schools, and chapels ... but instead they put the newer/younger priests in charge, so much so that it gives me the impression that they don't trust these older priests to be on board with the neo-SSPX agenda.  I know a few of them who are not particularly happy with the new direction, but they basically don't know what alternative/choice they have.  Not everyone can forge out on their own and start up a chapel, etc.

    Every 4-6 years is frequent?

Some are even transferred a year to two years, especially when the parishioners are complaining about Father so-and-so to the district. Must have been the sermon that frustrated those who live the complete opposite of what was preached? Who knows.

Well, better than the last, so far, but really wet behind the ears.

    It is very frustrating, indeed.
I have never had an sspx priest i would trust as a spiritual advisor, even if they DID stay around a while.  The arrogance and condescension in this new breed is really unapproachable.

So they don't get attached or into trouble.

    Yes, it is.
My uncle, pre-VII priest was stationed at one church his entire life as a priest, 60 years.  My father said such was not uncommon when he was a boy.

    Sorry, didn't mean to down-thumb.
The congregation here complained about the 5-grade sermons and we got a demanding priest.  The congregation complained again, and got a super young one.  Now we only get the young ones.  Ugh.

That occurs in some places even today.
