Clarification needed! I was reading through this thread and this sounds wrong! What I meant was that I’ve never had a bonafide spiritual director because no priest has ever remained long enough in one place for that to be possible. I have had good priests, in general, a few excellent, in fact.
It's been many years since I've had access to a solid spiritual director. When you're a "mission" chapel especially, it's all the priest can do just to hear Confessions before moving along to the next place. And, quite frankly, the newer neo-SSPX priests that I've run into have NOT been very good with direction nor even with pastoral care in general. There were quite a few great ones with the SSPX "old guard".
Oh, I've noticed also that the solid priests from my generation are generally relegated to low-profile positions and as assistants. They should be the heads of the various priories, schools, and chapels ... but instead they put the newer/younger priests in charge, so much so that it gives me the impression that they don't trust these older priests to be on board with the neo-SSPX agenda. I know a few of them who are not particularly happy with the new direction, but they basically don't know what alternative/choice they have. Not everyone can forge out on their own and start up a chapel, etc.
