Non Possumus "Ludwig Ring-Eifel (57) is the editor-in-chief of the Catholic News Agency (KNA) since 2005. He is also the author of several books. The most recent of them is "Interviews of Pope Francis" (2016). In this article, he does not conceal his sympathies towards Bishop Fellay"

The Swiss Bishop Bernard Fellay, heir of Monsignor Lefebvre

In mid-July 2018 the new Superior General of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSPX) will be elected. The Swiss Bernard Fellay, ordained in 1988 by Bishop Marcel Lefebvre, already has two terms in charge of the Fraternity. Will he be chosen for a third party?
In 1988, when Bishop Marcel Lefebvre, in a break with Rome, wanted to secure his succession by ordering four bishops in Ecône, in Valais. This gesture marked the break with Rome and caused the excommunication of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX). Among the bishops consecrated by Msgr. Lefebvre, the youngest was barely 30 years old: Bernard Fellay, a Valesan. This episcopal ordination was done against the will of the Pope and therefore was sanctioned by Rome.
Bernard Fellay was the most gifted linguistically and the most intelligent of the four new traditionalist bishops . Logically, in 1994, three years after the death of Bishop Lefebvre, he was elected Superior General of the SSPX, which continued to grow on all continents despite the excommunications. Since then, he has directed the Fraternity for two 12-year terms, with a total of 24 years. It remains to be seen if the General Chapter will choose it superior for the third time in mid-July. The game is open.
An impressive balance
The number of active priests and future priests has grown, under the leadership of Bishop Fellay , to more than 600 priests and more than 200 seminarians in the world. The Bishop of Vales has made several concessions to successive popes since he entered St. Peter's Basilica in Rome during the Holy Year 2000, during a spectacular pilgrimage with hundreds of followers. Gradually he was approaching Rome .
Pope Benedict XVI was the one he felt closest to: in 2007, the German Pontiff accepted again the celebration of the Tridentine Mass in Latin throughout the world, and in 2009, he lifted the excommunication at the request of Bishop Fellay.
Since then, the ecclesiastical status of the SSPX has been in a gray zone between separation and reunification. Pope Francis further blurred this frontier by allowing the priests of the Fraternity to administer the sacrament of confession and to assist Catholic marriages. At the same time, however, the gap in dogmatic and moral theology has widened further.
Now, the project of the Roman Church to admit to the communion the divorced and newly married Catholics, or to the Protestant spouses of Catholics, as recently proposed in Germany, shows once again, from the point of view of Mons Fellay and his friends, the "false paths" that the Catholic Church has taken adapting to modernity and "neo-Protestantism".
Accusations against Rome
When Bishop Fellay criticizes these events, he rarely does so with a roar. This task leaves the confreres more oriented to the controversy . The Swiss prefers to persevere and defend his vision of things: for him, it is not the SSPX that has moved away from the Roman Church, but Rome which, since the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), has moved away more of his own doctrine and secular tradition.
For this reason, Bishop Fellay co-signed a "fraternal correction" with numerous theologians and more or less eminent intellectuals in September 2017. In this public admonition, Pope Francis is called to revoke the alleged heresies linked to communion in favor of the divorced and of those who have remarried.
Recognition of the Pope
In his explanatory statement, Bishop Fellay explains: "For every fiber of our being, we are connected with Rome, who is the mother and teacher, we would not be Romans if we rejected her 2000 years of teaching. in the artisans of their destruction, with a moral situation dangerously based on a softened theology ".
Despite the growing theological differences, Bishop Fellay insists on the recognition of the Pope. A Pope whose image is also displayed in the Fraternity's headquarters . Thus, the Superior General strongly separates his troops from the most extreme traditionalists. Meanwhile, the latter have created, under the impulse of the former bishop of the SSPX Richard Williamson, a "priestly community Marcel Lefebvre", with the participation of their own bishops, excommunicated .

Logically?  I couldn't get past this statement.  ABL specifically said there should never be a superior general of the SSPX and, if there was one, it should absolutely NOT be a bishop.  So I would like to know how this person can spout that +fellay would have been ABL's "logical" choice?

The zealots will make things up from whole cloth, to support their narratives of heroes and villians.

I am constantly amazed how frequently "traditional catholics", religious and laity alike, attempt to deceive.
.
Makes me wonder if this Ludwig Ring-eifel is related to Max Krah.
.
The Church is such a mess.  God help us.

I could be wrong, but since the author of the article seems to be strongly campaigning for Bp. Fellay to be re-elected as SG, it gives me hope, because what need would there be to try to put Bp. Fellay in such a positive light, if there weren't forces at work in the SSPX that are challenging Bp. Fellay's re-election?

I truly hope and pray that Bp. Fellay will not be re-elected.

Also, the end of the article gives the distinct impression that while Bp. Fellay recognizes Francis as Pope, Bp. Williamson does not recognize the Pope. It simply isn't true that Bp. Williamson doesn't recognize the Pope. The author of the article is either lying or deluded.
"It is licit to resist a Sovereign Pontiff who is trying to destroy the Church. I say it is licit to resist him in not following his orders and in preventing the execution of his will. It is not licit to Judge him, to punish him, or to depose him, for these are acts proper to a superior."
