A very good explanation of what has gone wrong in the SSPX.
At about the 106:00 minute mark, Father explains that the SSPX wants normalization with Rome so that they won't be considered a cult. He cites the book, "Christian Warfare," by St. Ignatius:
He says that for the Standard of Christ, there are three steps (anything in parenthesis is mine):
1) Poverty, as opposed to riches.
2) Insults - being willing to accept insults or contempt, as opposed to the honor of this world.
3) Humility, as opposed to pride.
Father explains that we (they) don't want to be considered a cult. We want to be considered to be normal by worldly people. This is what Fr. Schmidberger and Bp. Fellay are saying - that we want to be considered as normal by the Romans and the Modernists in Rome; we want to be normal by their standards. We don't want to be abnormal or considered as some strange group or sect, or schismatic, or called names that are untrue. We want to be normalized, regularized; we want a solution to our situation, so we want to be "in" with them.
That goes against what they preach in the Spiritual Exercises, where it says that we want, we prefer the standard of Christ - being insulted - that leads to humility as the source of all virtues. Once you're humble, then God will give virtues. Humility, poverty, contempt come first, but they don't want that contempt; they don't want to be outside - we want to be normal and not a cult. That's the situation in the Society, and it's going slowly. There will probably never be a formal agreement for a long time. They will just keep working together, with joint things (with the dioceses), especially in Brisbane.
