  • What is the name of the small round glass bowl, usually with a cross on it, with a small round brass lid that sits next to the tabernacle? This vessel is always full of holy water.

The priest uses this to purify his hands, or to place the Blessed Sacrament in (to promote dissolution of the Host) if somehow a Sacred Particle ends up on the floor.

I can't find one online if I can't even name it.

My first guess was "sacrarium", but I think that's a special sink where blessed water (from the Lavabo dish, etc.) is dumped, where it goes directly into the ground.

  • No, that's what I informally call the "Asperges bucket". We have one of those.

This is made of glass usually, and sits next to the tabernacle at all times.

  • Ablution Cup – covered dish of water on the side of the tabernacle which is used by the priest, deacon or extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist to wash their fingers after distributing Communion.

"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

  • Matthew, you take a lot of flak for being a pompous, arrogant windbag but this thread proves you know you aren't all that.

Jolly good job and carry on.
