How to Start a Resistance Mission?

  • We would like to start a Resistance Mission in the NYC Area.
We are hoping this would be a haven for Traditional Catholics who are staying faithful to Tradition and the Resistance priests who reject the new doctrine being promulgated within the NovusSSPX.

How did all the other Missions get started?
    How were they established?
What is needed to start up?  Costs Financially?
Any help in this direction would be very much appreciated.

You just talk to everyone in your area, form a list of people who are interested in holding to Archbishop Lefebvre's mission and rejecting the new SSPX orientation. That's the most important part.

Then contact Fr. Pfeiffer and ask about a visit. From what I can tell, he'll try any place out once, because otherwise you just "never know". But for subsequent/regular visits, he does have to prioritize, being as he has limited resources (especially time). Being close to a major airport hub is a big plus. (NOT the same as a major city, as I've learned by experience!)

However busy he was in 2012 and the first half of 2013, he's busier now that he started up the Boston, KY seminary.

When speaking with him, you can talk about how many people you have, etc.

Then you figure out a place to have Mass -- someone's home or other building, or you rent a hotel room.

Someone has to pick up Fr. from the airport (and bring him back there later), organize the fine details (post-Mass potluck, etc.) and so forth. Usually there's a conference afterwards, especially for new locations.

As far as "materials" it can actually be quite bare bones. Father brings all the essentials with him. But the more stuff you have, the better. It's good to have an altar server, for example.

  • What about those who reject the new orientation but are fearful for their situation with regards to the reception of the Sacraments?  What do we tell them?
Some are truly afraid of being found out.  Especially the older folks.

The fearful probably won't come no matter how nice and convenient the set-up.  That is an issue each one has to resolve for himself.  There are those who would stay away even if Mass were offered at St. Patrick's Cathedral, with free door-to-door taxi service and a banquet afterwards.
Any priest who denies the Sacraments to a person in need of them solely because he went to the Mass of a Resistance priest is unworthy of the priesthood and will be judged severely if he doesn't repent.
